Quebec, a distinct market, some tv news graphics

Quebec is the second largest province (state) in Canada with 8 millions people. With a population composed mainly of francophones, the province has been influenced by both american and french-european culture. These two different cultures also influenced Quebec's television industry. I thought it would be interesting to share some of my videos with you members of the TVnewstalk community. You'll see the result of these different influences in a lot of these videos.

 

There are 3 main private network in Quebec with their own television programs and a very little use of american programs (translate in french). Also note that most news packages are composed by local artists, except for some production music bought to companies like FirstCom.

 

TVA

The most powerful network is owned by Quebecor. Their 12am, 5pm/6pm and 10pm newscasts are the most watched in the province. Their graphics and news themes are very sober and simple.

TQS, the second most watched network. A private network reknown for his agressive attitude and commented newscast. Here anchors don't read teleprompter, they tell the news. In early 2000's they had very good ratings, they were even beating TVA. But after some financial troubles, the new owner of the network just decided to stop broadcasting newscasts and they fired almost all reporters. Starting in september, they will focus on a talk oriented format, inspired by talk radio.

Morning show open :

 

Radio-Canada, the public broadcaster. They have a lot of ressources and money. The most beautiful graphics and themes, and a lot of news crews but very low ratings.
