PTVNews 194
I was wanting to know if anyone knows of a hard drive video camera that works well with Adobe Premiere. I have heard that not all work because some record the audio in AC3 format and Premiere can't read that. I'm looking for a consumer type camera not a professional camera. Thanks. caliwxdude 254
Well, some Panasonic, Sony and Canon cameras record high definition AVCHD video directly to hard drives, which can be read by Premiere Pro CS4 and Final Cut Pro. I think Premiere Pro CS3 can also import and edit AVCHD, but I'm not exactly sure. If you're looking for a standard-def camera, many of those record in MPEG2 files with muxed audio, which isn't editable in most (if not all) NLEs. I know, I'm trying to help a bunch of journalism students who went out and bought a new Canon camera that records MPEG2s to SD cards, but can't get FCP to recognize the files. The workaround we're using is by installing MPEG Streamclip, a free video converter.
