nbc9houston 22 Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Effective New Year's Day 2009, KBTV will switch affliations from NBC to Fox. It is currently unclear where NBC in Southeast Texas end up at. I hoping that KBTV retains NBC affiliation via one of its digital subchannels. http://www.beaumontenterprise.com/news/local/kbtc_channel_4_to_become_fox_affiliate_10-24-2008.html
Ntropolis 599 Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 I think NBC will go to a subchannel on KBMT or KFDM... I doubt KUIL-LP will pick it up. There's also the issue of OTA HD. If it got on a subchannel of some station, it won't be in HD.
james32746 8 Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 I would think that KPLC in Lake Charles would become the affiliate by default as they already have coverage in the eastern suburbs of Beaumont (Orange, TX for example). I wonder if this has to do with Fox having better ratings than NBC most of the time.
effseesee 101 Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 Nexstar has 5 NBC affiliation agreements expiring at the end of the year (Beaumont, Wichita Falls, Joplin, Wilkes-Barre, and Terre Haute). Of those 5, Beaumont is the only market where Nexstar does not control a second station affiliated with a Big Four network. NBC has been telling affiliates they intend to roll out a plan where affiliates would pay NBC for the right to be an affiliate. That may not have been to Nexstar's liking and they decided to shop around. Beaumont was a candidate because the current FOX affiliate is a low power station and it does not produce local news. The only other station of the 5 that could switch is WTWO in Terre Haute which does not have an ABC affiliate. Unless KUIL starts a news operation, you're not likely to see NBC. As someone pointed out, you'll probably see NBC on a subchannel of either KFDM or KBMT. The only way you will get a consistent NBC HD signal is by subscribing to cable or satellite (if they provide local HD channels) since they will get the feed directly from the studio. If you intend to rely upon an over-the-air signal from KPLC in Lake Charles, you may be very disappointed.
bhratbrat 437 Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 Wow..A lot of history with KJAC/KBTV being NBC. I am just shocked to see this go down.
eyewitness_news 5 Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Wow..A lot of history with KJAC/KBTV being NBC. I am just shocked to see this go down. New Years Day '09 ought to be day one of those "Moments when the mighty have fallen" for KJAC/KBTV. Sort of.
sctvhound 27 Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 That is kind of a weird thing for them to flip to FOX just like that. What will NBC do for the Super Bowl (since they have it this year)? KUIL is a tiny little station that actually is up on C-band satellite, free to air, one of the only Fox stations like that. NBC may have to go to KBMT or KFDM's subchannel, otherwise, it would have to be imported from KPLC in Lake Charles or KPRC.
bhratbrat 437 Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 IT'll more than likely be KPLC. KPRC (unless there new digital signal is great) is currently too weak.
effseesee 101 Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Not a surprise, NBC going to KBMT. http://www.beaumontenterprise.com/news/local/kbmt_to_become_nbc_affiliate__in_addition_to_carrying_abc_programming_11-25-2008.html
semistatic 0 Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Apparently they're going "FOX-ified" .... they've already got a new logo on their talent headshots http://setxhomepage.com/content/inside_kbtv4

I'm not surprised. I wonder if they would keep their 10pm show along with a 9pm show (if they're planning on one).
nbc9houston 22 Posted January 1, 2009 Author Posted January 1, 2009 Tomorrow's the affiliation switches; here's how Southeast Texas will receive NBC 1/1/09 and beyond: http://www.kbmt12.com/home/breaking/35970284.html As for KUIL, they're going independent and are now "The U": http://www.kuiltv.com/
CircleSeven 1960 Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 As for KUIL, they're going independent and are now "The U": http://www.kuiltv.com/ Ahhhh, HELL NO!!! I hope the folks at Weigel is looking at that website. The "U" logo and the use of red nearly clones WCIU's logo.
ProButtonPusher 230 Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 ..are you sure Weigel didn't agree to it?
bhratbrat 437 Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 well the KBTV open is posted on SMNMSA..they are using News Matrix. It seems like a lot of the Nexstar Stations are going to Arnold which is a good sign for him.
