Geoffrey 861
The major (and even the non-major) stations in New York will do a "soft shutdown" of their analog signals this evening at 5:58 for two minutes... it's a voluntary test of the digital changeover and I guess is being done so that viewers know if they have the right equipment or not. Here's the story: http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/081027/20081027006142.html?.v=1 I know some markets are changing over early but are any others doing this two-minute test? Weeters 1916
Most markets are conducting these tests. Milwaukee did a few weeks ago and is planning on doing another one in a few months. caliwxdude 254
San Francisco did one last Tuesday as well. I think all of the major stations in the market put up a graphic on their analog channels at 6:15 p.m. that said something like "Your TV is not ready for the digital transition" or something to that effect... so it wasn't a shut down in the true sense of the word. KGO-TV has also conducted a few overnight tests of its digital signal on Channel 7, which would require a full shutdown of the analog transmitter.
