PunditWannabe 0 Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 So I have started watching Channel 2 at 5pm because the new set at 4 really irks me; I am not good with change! But I think I have found something that bothers me more: Lonny Quinn. No, I know he's not new, but I guess I just forgot how bad he is.....I especially hate the way he says "tonight, we're gonna take you down to 31..." No, YOU are not taking us anywhere. And he doesn't really seem to know all that much about the weather, generally speaking. I miss Janice...I may just have to get used to the cheesy set and music at WNBC...
Harry Houdini 0 Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Janice Huff? I don't miss her sideburns.
Harry Houdini 0 Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 You can just barely see them here before she had them waxed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlUcxc0cKZw

I stopped watching CBS2 regularly after they did their last huge anchor swap. The clincher for me was the hiring of Lonnie. I basically can't stand him. He's got entirely way too many weird facial expressions and way too many hand and arm motions. He consistently grabs one finger as if he is going to count, but he never goes further then "1". Also, he often does a shoulder shrug as if to say, "I'm not really sure if my forecast is right, but..". The only reason I continued to watch occasionally was for the 7 day forecast, but with 4 and 5 now doing one, there is no reason to watch 2.
seriouslythough 0 Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 You think that's bad? When he was WTVJ, he used to as an auxiliary anchor before becoming just the weatherman. There was a video on YouTube where he was reporting a story (around 2002) about Fidel Castro being diagnosed with some disease and he was trying to hold in his laughter. I'm glad he's not here anymore. But hey, if it makes up for it, you got Megan Glaros from us.
TrfRptr 3 Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 Yeah, Lonnie not my favorite weather personality. His forecasts are often...wrong. I'm not talking about him saying 40 and it's 42...I'm talking about 30% chance of rain/snow and their isn't a cloud in the sky all day. Not to mention, his distracting hand gestures at the wall. Ridiculous motions and sweeps is just waaayyayayaayyy to much. I'm surprised the consultants haven't got him away from that. Plus..(I know, I'm rambling)...he says things that just aren't funny. Normally, the Chief Meteorologist is the most respected, credited guy in the office. This guy was purely hired for looks. Dumb move.
Harry Houdini 0 Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 To be honest, all the weather people in the NYC area are poor in their forecasts. IMHO. Many timies the call for snow or rain and nothing. Sometimes you say "WTF are they talking about?". Now, somebody please point me in the direction of the wether geek that came up with N'or-easter. I would like to kick him/her in the slats. That goes for Tsunami person too.

He just stands there looking pretty, frequently in an ill-fitting suit and reads off the monitor and points. (Sigh) Remember the pre-Coke days of Mark Danon on WCBS? Hunky and adorable, great suits and a qualified meterologist...(sigh)
Geoffrey 960 Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 "HIS" forecasts? He has nothing to do with them. I can confirm that this is not correct.
shorewx 1 Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 i can confirm...that he has a weather producer for all his shows..i know the guy
SuitSnob 19 Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 I can confirm that this is not correct. So, him being an ex actor/ model and not a meteorologist...what does he do...look outside and see grey clouds and say "Gee...looks cloudy...might rain..."
ib-td 1 Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 So, him being an ex actor/ model and not a meteorologist...what does he do...look outside and see grey clouds and say "Gee...looks cloudy...might rain..." Ding Ding Ding!! Thank you we have a winner, no more calls. Actually, don't give him that much credit. He probably can't figure out how to open the door to look.
