takingaction4you 4 Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Krista Villarreal, the morning and noon meteorologist at WPXI is leaving her job to move with her family to Texas. This solves the problem of a too-large weather staff at 11. Mike LaPoint will take over Krista's spot and Julie Bologna will assume all of LaPoint's evening duties. I highly doubt Mike will do anything for WPXI's morning ratings; I can't stand to watch him in the evening and I might switch completely to WTAE in the mornings. PitCleTV 9 Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Damn! Villarreal was the only meteorologist I liked.
jdmorley 0 Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 Honestly i was shocked, Scott harbaugh should take over her place, Not Mike, Mike shouldn't loose his title as chief Just because Julie drops in! what in the world is WPXI thinking
Tyler 151 Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 I've always liked Krista. Sad to see her go. And speaking of going, Mike should just go... period. As with Christian, I can't stand watching him. I'm glad Julie is taking his place. Harbaugh would be a good replacement for Villarreal IMO. On another note, its interesting that Krista was Julie's replacement when the departed for Texas. Now, Julie is coming back to PA, and Krista is departing for Texas.
jdmorley 0 Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 It does seem like Mike was always the odd man out althought right when i saw Julie on teh 5 pm i thought...damn she would be a good chief met, not that i knew anything! Scott should be the morning met, he has just as much as anyone as the station, Kevin does great on the weekends, so dont move him. Hmm, interesting point, maybe Julie pushed her out? Krista always seemed nice and its going to be a interesting ride to see what Mike does for mornings, if i were him, he should leave, he been demoted....why take the crap.
takingaction4you 4 Posted December 7, 2008 Author Posted December 7, 2008 Hmm, interesting point, maybe Julie pushed her out? Krista always seemed nice and its going to be a interesting ride to see what Mike does for mornings, if i were him, he should leave, he been demoted....why take the crap. Julie didn't push Krista out. In the article it says that Krista left on her own terms, but Julie did make WPXI's weather staff a bit too big. If anyone would have been going by force, I'm 95% sure it would have been Mike. He's not as much of a familiar face to Pittsburgh. That, and he looks (and sounds) like a Ken doll... Or is that just me? It's also in Mike's best interest to stay. If you have a job that pays you good money, you stay. He's probably getting paid more to do mornings in Pittsburgh than he was doing his previous job in Milwaukee.
jdmorley 0 Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Mike is a great guy, i acutually got a tour of the old station thanks to him, His voice is a little ruff but he is a great meteorologist, CBM seal, so i bet he can do just as great in mornings, But Julie is a great person too, nothing against her, but she fits the "chief" title. so does mike. but anyway, this will be interesting for everyone, scott doing more on PCNC and sutff, with wx plus going bye-bye now what is WPXI plannin to do with 11-2?
first on fox 18 Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 now what is WPXI plannin to do with 11-2? Nothing. That is enough out of you for now...

Que 73 Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 And now she is on KDAF here in Dallas. Apparently if you can't get a job at the big 4, you have to settle for last place The 33. This is also where laid off KXAS Rebecca Miller is at.
first on fox 18 Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 A job is a job in this economy. No need to judge...
Que 73 Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Not judging, but that station only produces an 1hr (M-F) and 30min (Sat and Sun) newscast but has 4 meteorologist.
takingaction4you 4 Posted December 31, 2008 Author Posted December 31, 2008 Does it look like Krista is there for a replacement of someone? I can understand having three meteorologists (the third being for online updates and fill-in) but four is a bit much.
Que 73 Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 It is hard to tell, especially when their Chief Meteorologist isn't even on most of the time. Also their website only has their Chief Meteorologist bio.
NewsMan 0 Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 She's replacing Fred Barnhill who left earlier this year. Rebecca's only a freelancer. Bob's still the Chief though.
Que 73 Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 She's replacing Fred Barnhill who left earlier this year. Rebecca's only a freelancer. Bob's still the Chief though. Old topic, but new developments. Rebecca now has the title of Chief Meteorologist and appears on most weekday newscast now. Her bio has also been added to their site.
