Brown, a UCLA graduate who joined WWL's weather staff in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, said Thursday evening that she intends to stay in New Orleans and pursue a higher degree with the goal of an eventual teaching career. "I'll still be here," she said. The station laid off several off-camera staffers a few weeks ago, but Chris Slaughter, WWL news director, said the move is not an economy-driven layoff.
