WDSU hires Holy Cross and Loyola grad Jay Galle as morning weathercaster

Posted by Dave Walker, TV columnist, The Times-Picayune April 30, 2009

WDSU-Channel 6 has hired Jay Galle, a Holy Cross High School and Loyola University grad, to forecast weather for its morning newscast.

Galle's most recent posting is the NBC affiliate in Salinas, Calif. He'll join WDSU in May.

"Growing up in New Orleans, I developed a real fascination and healthy respect for the weather," said Galle in a WDSU news release. "In this part of the world, you absolutely need to know what's going on with the weather. It has a tremendous impact on all of our lives. It's one of the reasons I pursued a career in meteorology.

"Coming home to join WDSU -- it's really something special."

Galle's career pre-broadcasting includes service in the Marine Corps and work in Hollywood a writer, actor and producer.

He apparently acted under the name Jack Galle, where his cast credits include "Without a Trace," "CSI" and "24."

His "24" appearance came in 6 a.m. hour of the fifth season, playing a helicopter pilot who gets tasered by Jack Bauer.

Galle's www.imdb.com profile also lists him as writer and executive producer of the 2006 short film "Pearblossom Highway."
