ctmajka 115 Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Here I'll post some themes & pieces of music that I have made. I'd like to compose for TV stations some day. These 2 cuts are for a station WVII-TV in Bangor, Maine. The signature is based on the slogan "ABC7, your Bangor News": http://www.imeem.com/people/vc7PBGT/music/dhFLnuVB/chris-majka-track-4mp3/ Here's the 30 sec. close: http://www.imeem.com/people/vc7PBGT/music/TTII47eW/chris-majka-track-18wma/ This one is for WVII's sister station WFVX FOX22...it's a similar arrangement with a different sig. and different instrumentation to give it that FOX feel: http://www.imeem.com/people/vc7PBGT/music/QGWFWW2n/wvfx-2009-testmp3/ So what do you think?
ctmajka 115 Posted July 16, 2009 Author Posted July 16, 2009 Thanks! I've been told they sound too synthetic. But so does most of Gari's stuff (esp. from the 90's) and HE can get away with it. haha.
DMA 135 Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 I think this theme is excellent. The signature is bold and memorable. It may be too synthetic, but you certainly don't have an orchestra at your disposal! I could see this being used on a station actually, arranged like AWYT or orchestrally.
ctmajka 115 Posted July 17, 2009 Author Posted July 17, 2009 Thank you. Here's the political and 30 second tease cuts: http://www.imeem.com/people/vc7PBGT/music/TxEAyh_Y/chris-majka-track-10mp3/ http://www.imeem.com/people/vc7PBGT/music/nswKLK2d/chris-majka-track-8mp3/

jestbiteme 13 Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 http://www.imeem.com/people/vc7PBGT/music/RSWevKGP/chris-majka-track-15mp3/ Breaking News The themes seem sound, but the instrumentation definitely needs some work.
Evening Magazine 18 Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 The themes seem sound, but the instrumentation definitely needs some work. Yeah. Ditto.
ctmajka 115 Posted July 22, 2009 Author Posted July 22, 2009 ...It may be too synthetic, but you certainly don't have an orchestra at your disposal!... There isn't much I can do there until I order the London Philharmonic Orchestral Sampler CD which is $169. I don't quite have that sort of cash lying around right now. =^P. So for now, please disregard the fact that everyone can plainly tell it was made with a synth program. Thanks! :awesome:
Evening Magazine 18 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 There isn't much I can do there until I order the London Philharmonic Orchestral Sampler CD which is $169. Why would that help?
ctmajka 115 Posted July 22, 2009 Author Posted July 22, 2009 The themes seem sound, but the instrumentation definitely needs some work. The Breaking News cut was meant to sound like a synth. Really edgy & rough.
ctmajka 115 Posted July 22, 2009 Author Posted July 22, 2009 Why would that help? They're HQ recordings of real instruments. Each track is of a different instrument or instruments holding a note or a couple of notes at various lengths and different levels of aggressiveness. In turn, I can use those recordings in the computer as a sample to make my music. These samples are done by a real orchestra, not made by a synthesizer. Therefore, the music will sound better.

Ok, I see that. I thought it was like a demo song or something. Now I understand. So that would be considered re-composing music, maybe?
QCnewsmusic 0 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I love your breaking news theme, awesome really ! It fact, it sounds similar to some Adrenaline cuts! And for the rest of the package, ok, probably not enough orchestral, but I can see some talent. I do hear some WHDH similarities here and there, so you probably have some Chris Crane blood in your veins ;-)
ctmajka 115 Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 That's what I've been told. I've been told my stuff sounds like a mixture between Gari & Crane. Which is a compliment. I'd really like to get in contact with Chris Crane, but I have NO idea where to find any of his contact info. I've tried talking to Gari already, but he seemed less than interested. Bleh.
socalnewsguy 11 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Very nice job. You know, you should really give a try for HitPlay's Works for You morning theme. It's not too orchestral, and in some ways matches your current compositions in terms of sound.
Jess 1116 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 The composition of the theme is very, very sound. Some nice cuts and pieces there - I approve. The instrumentation is, I agree, rough - but given what you had to work with it's not something that really detracts from it. A good package of instruments will absolutely improve that.
socalnewsguy 11 Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 I'd just like to let you know, your compositions have HUGELY inspired me.
newsguy22 59 Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Keep it up, man. I'm impressed. They sound good for what you have to work with. Would be cool to hear what you could do if you had that London Philharmonic CD. Make us proud, haha.
ctmajka 115 Posted December 23, 2011 Author Posted December 23, 2011 Alrighty then! So, it's been over 2 years, and I've added to the collection. Here's my News Music Playlist. Enjoy, and let me know what you think.
MikeBnews 0 Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Hey, Chris, I might want to use something by you for my newscast at the end of 2012, or next year! Please let me know about that possibility.
