newscenter 0
The FOX Report with Shepard Smith - weeknights on the FOX News Channel - is by far the only show worth watching. Smith is neither liberal or conservative, and there is no bodyslamming of the pundits on the show; there is no political bitching on the show; just the hard news. http://www.star-telegram.com/entertainment/story/1614980-p2.html The four categories of hard news are what Shepard Smith does very well: business and economy, legal and law, science and education. Science - biggest baby born in Indonesia (aired on the FOX Report on September 25) is weighed in at 19.2 pounds. This is a very unusual weight and size for a baby http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,554809,00.html Legal and Law - Toyota car recall - criminal neglectful concerning the floor boards caught in gas pedals. This story aired yesterday, September 29. This causes a lawsuit Business and Economy - bikini car wash in Orlando (aired on September 25) where more business is juiced up because of bikini-clad hotties washes cars. Most of the customers are men, but for women customers, cars are washed at half priced. http://www.foxnews.com/search-results/m/26592160/across-america-9-25.htm#q=Orlando+car+wash The four categories of hard news, and the day's events from across the country and around the world, are what make the FOX Report worth watching. Even the anchor - Shepard Smith - is awesome than Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and others combined. I wish all the FOX News Channel shows were like the FOX Report - journalism, hard news and pre-recorded stories done by correspondents. NewsJunkie247 1
I agree that the FOX Report is a top notch news show that is definitely worth watching. I usually don't watch Fox News Channel, but when I do, it is either the Fox Report or Studio B. Shepard Smith is a great journalist that isn't biased and I really enjoy his style. Overall, for being on a conservative network, it is a great newscast. Ntropolis 596
I wish all the FOX News Channel shows were like the FOX Report - journalism, hard news and pre-recorded stories done by correspondents. I wish all the cable "news" networks were like that. I don't watch FOX Report because that's Wheel and J! watching time... the only times I really watch FNC are America's News HQ, The Live Desk, and Huckabee (that's not news, but I like him, he has some good stuff on there). I'm not a cable news fan, I only watch when there's nothing else on. It's mostly a bunch of crap, IMO. Hometown News 54
Actually, I don't like FOX Report despite being a big FOX News viewer. It is way too tabloid and Shepard Smith just seems uncomfortable. Although the opinion shows are very politically-charged and very conservative, I think they are much better done than FOX Report because they report current news and give opinions, and their hosts seem genuine. Also, their opinion shows don't masquerade as "hard, unbiased news" like the MSNBC and CNN ones do. Hometown News 54
How about Olbermann passing off his 15-minutes-too-long, blither-blathery, no-point-in-sight anti-Bush rants as "hard news" and "research?" At least O'Reilly says several times a night that his show gives his opinion. I've never heard Olbermann say that once. Ntropolis 596
Once again, this proves you can't talk about FOX News without bringing up politics. "biggest baby born" and "bikini clad hotties"... is anything but. Fodder for a 15 second kicker, perhaps. Hardly hard news. Ntropolis 596
Only an idiot would consider O'Reilly, Olbermann, Hannity, Maddow, Beck, etc. to be news programs. KRAP-TV 146
I would agree that Shep fronts the best NEWSCASTS on FOXnews. I used to watch Studio B and FOXreport religiously. But not anymore. I've completely tuned that channel out - mainly because of the filth that is spewed during the rest of the dayparts (see FOX and Friends, Beck, and Hannity for a few examples). They do entertaining television (and very well, I might add), but it's not news. And the whole channel is one big spin zone, despite their claim to being fair and balanced. MSNBC is guilty, too...just on the opposite end of the spectrum. MSNBC is guilty, too...just on the opposite end of the spectrum. You're quite right. Cable news, especially FNC and MSNBC are essentially talk radio stations, on television. Think about it, the bulk of the programming is opinionated, host-driven talk, with a few newscasts sprinkled in. The sad/frustrating part is, the average viewer can't discern between the two. The lines have become quite blurred for cable news. This has a trickle down effect on local TV news as well. This is especially true of viewers of FNC, who may view O'Reilly or Beck as journalists. (They're soooo not) When real journalists fail to cover stories in a manner akin to those shows (ie, from a conservative viewpoint) they are viewed as having a bias (liberal, in this case). At the end of the day, viewers will watch a product they can trust and feel comfortable with. If a network like FNC is supplying them with a non-stop diet of what they want to hear, they'll come back for more. So, from a business model, they're doing a great job. From where I stand, it's also an incredible disservice to actual journalism. Let it be said, I'm not only picking on FNC. We all know MSNBC does it too... but nobody watches them, so it's a moot point. It's the truth! I don't know about other people who watch FOX News, but I don't recognize O'Reilly, Hannity, and Beck as journalists in the traditional sense. But, I don't watch their shows expecting a "hard newscast." I watch their shows because I agree with their viewpoints. FOX News has done a very good job promoting the shows as just that - opinions. That's better than MSNBC, who only recently copped to being the "Place for (Liberal) Politics," or CNN, who still operates under the delusion that they are non-biased news. Hometown News 54
Well, I don't think I'm an idiot because certain people refuse to look outside their liberal/socialist agenda long enough to realize what Obama is truly doing to our country. You refuse to get news from both sides. You hear only what you want to hear - what does this say about you? Also proving you're an idiot: liberal/socialist ProTip: Macarthyism went out of fashion in the 50's.
