Former WWL weathercaster Dawn Brown signs on with WVUE

Dropped as weekend weathercaster by WWL-Channel 4 earlier this year, Dawn Brown has landed at WVUE-Channel 8.

The station announced Monday that Brown will start in January, air shift to be determined.

Her addition brings the WVUE weather staff total to five, counting Bob Breck, Nicondra Norwood, Chris Franklin and Kim Vaughn.

Brown said she’s spent the half-year since her WWL dismissal taking classes and working on a Web site, http://www.myweatherlady.com/, both of which she intends to continue after returning to full-time employment at WVUE.

Her hire raises the possibility of an on-air reunion with Lee Zurik, who anchored weekend news at WWL before jumping to WVUE earlier this month.

If it happens – and WVUE managers aren’t tipping their hands -- it won’t be until May at the earliest, because Zurik has to sit out a six-month non-compete clause in his WWL contract.

“I called him and told him that I was joining him,” Brown said. “He’s happy for me. He’s happy I have a job. He’s happy I get to do what I want to do.”
