nynewsguy 66 Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 http://www.cablerant.com/index.php?topic=1834.msg5212;topicseen#new Does anybody know if this is true? False as of now.... Sure, there is a channel 712, but they are still broadcasting in 4x3, which makes me believe the signal is being upconverted. They don't have field cams that are HD, and they don't have an HD ready set... so I wouldn't expect anything revolutionary here. It's possible to go "real" HD someday, but there has to be a large investment on their part first.
nynewslover 282 Posted December 17, 2009 Author Posted December 17, 2009 it must be true! This Optimums respone 2 my e-mail Effective Friday, December 18, 2009, News 12 HD will be available to Cablevision customers in all service areas except for Dutchess, Putnam and Ulster. TrfRptr 3 Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 No way it's actual HD...I'd bet the farm its upconvert.
nynewslover 282 Posted December 18, 2009 Author Posted December 18, 2009 http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r23497453-News-12-HD~start=40at According to this and many other sites News12 LI and NJ will go HD first (supposedly sometime today) and then all the other sister stations at some time in early 2010
nynewsguy 66 Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r23497453-News-12-HD~start=40at According to this and many other sites News12 LI and NJ will go HD first (supposedly sometime today) and then all the other sister stations at some time in early 2010 Well, that forum is wrong. The people with that information are going from a release that Cablevision is feeding out to their customers. Sure, there is a channel 712, but as was mentioned, it's the same feed that is on 12. It's standard 4x3 format. There is NO HD feed coming out of Cablevision's studios yet, at least not on Long Island. I'd be VERY surprised if the feed is anything besides a possible upconvert, at least for the near future.
anthonyz 27 Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 it could just be how Bay News 9 in Tampa went HD. BN9 went HD by just having a 4:3 safety graphic. Their "infobar" graphic will show us the changes, if there is any.
Geoffrey 877 Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 I don't think News 12 Long Island is close to being HD-ready. This change is good, though, because the picture is much clearer. News 12 somehow managed to be the blurriest channel I ever got and it's been like this all over the island for as long as I can remember. New graphics are in the works, though, and a new set by summer supposedly.

News 12 (from the last time I checked back in August before switching to FiOS) output appears to be analog unconverted to digital (CV did that in 2006). Their LIVE stream appears the same as well. The audio was in mono.
