KDKA's Yvonne Zanos has died

Oh my god, that is horrible. One would never know that she was sick because she continued to work up until the very end. Infact, her last report for KDKA was on New Year's Day. May she rest in peace and may God bless her family and friends.

A friend told me earlier in the week that Yvonne wasn't doing well, and I was shocked--the last I heard about her illness, an article from December in the PG, things didn't seem so... dire. I am glad that this didn't catch me off guard.

 

I will tell you that the tribute Dave Crawley put together was touching. It was the lead story at 5, which was really unexpected and a respectful move on KDKA's part.

 

At 5:30 Mary Robb Jackson presented a package of her own-- you could tell they were close, and Mary Robb had trouble keeping her composure at the end of the package.

 

She passed away just after her 60th birthday.

I couldn't believe the news when I first found out at noon; but then again she was battling something serious. She was one of my favorite reporters in Pittsburgh. On a side note, she looked great for 60! I never would have guessed.
