Emmy-winning set and lighting design firm FX Group has launched an easy and affordable way for broadcasters to receive professional lighting design, installation and maintenance.

Professional-grade lighting design is a key part of making television broadcasts look their best on the air, especially in high definition.

“Lighting design is vital to making your set and talent look their best,” said Mack McLaughlin, CEO and creative director of FX. “Stations cannot afford to have bad lighting.”

FX has offered Emmy-winning lighting design services for years, but the Lighting Optimization Program is an industry first.

At its core, Lighting Optimization Program offers professional lighting design and installation. In addition, stations can add the option of periodic return maintenance visits with discounts for long-term contracts.

The introduction of the Lighting Optimization Program comes at a key time — as more stations begin converting to HD signals, lighting becomes one of the most vital aspects of production.

“You can have the best set and best cameras, but with professional lighting, HD really becomes 3D — the talent pops of the screen,” said McLaughlin.

I can vouch for the great lighting of KWTV, which just installed one of your new sets in November. The picture is the clearest on TV.

One thing they forgot to tell the people at KWTV, and it's taken them three months to learn it again: Don't remove the close-ups. I think they were so busy trying to show off their new set in November, they forgot to actually put the talent on the screen where you could SEE them.

It has gotten much better now. The lighting is gorgeous and the set is too.
