budtkaboy2000 0 Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 They used the WCBS version for the 11:00 open, but they didn't change the voiceover. The result is not good, and it doesn't jive with the video.
eyewitness_news 5 Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Shortly after Brian James' untimely death last March 2009, KYW used an unidentified voiceover for their news opens. He sounds kinda like Paul Turner.
hopdevil 1 Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 It sounds like Paul Turner because it is Paul Turner.
Bars-n-tone 39 Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 It sounds like Paul Turner because it is Paul Turner. For now
Jess 1116 Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 Well, tonight the open voiceover is an unidentified voice who kinda sounds like Brian Lee, who voices WCBS. They also reworked the music cut so it fits the open better.
budtkaboy2000 0 Posted October 31, 2010 Author Posted October 31, 2010 It sounds better, but the previous open was just fine. When I hear this, I expect them to bring me tea.
newsguy32 0 Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 why do they mention HD? Isn't that pretty standard by now?
hopdevil 1 Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 For now :rofl!: Hinting at the switch to Brian Lee?
Bars-n-tone 39 Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Hinting at the switch to Brian Lee? As mentioned above, the opens already have a new announcer. Who it is, I don't know.
lazynetjunkie 34 Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 As mentioned above' date=' the opens already have a new announcer. Who it is, I don't know.[/quote'] It is indeed Brian Lee. However, why they have to mention the whole HD thing in the open, I don't know.. Many of the CBS O&O's do. Probably just copying what WCBS originally did with their open. The whole HD gimmick is meh now.. especially for a top market station. Makes me glad WBBM's open doesn't mention it.
budtkaboy2000 0 Posted November 4, 2010 Author Posted November 4, 2010 They're using the open cut for the breaking news sting, too. This is so not breaking news music.
Bars-n-tone 39 Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Many of the CBS O&O's do. Probably just copying what WCBS originally did with their open. Keep in mind that everything you are seeing and hearing is per the orders of NY. The idea is to make the O&Os into WCBS clones.
lazynetjunkie 34 Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Keep in mind that everything you are seeing and hearing is per the orders of NY. The idea is to make the O&Os into WCBS clones. I know but I know the voiceover mentioning "HD" in the intro wasn't in the manual.
hopdevil 1 Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 I know but I know the voiceover mentioning "HD" in the intro wasn't in the manual. If Peter Dunn wants it, Peter Dunn gets it... and Bruce Bauer makes it so.
lazynetjunkie 34 Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 If Peter Dunn wants it, Peter Dunn gets it... and Bruce Bauer makes it so. Yes. True. He apparently doesn't want the same out of all the O&O's then.
Jess 1116 Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 If Peter Dunn wants it, Peter Dunn gets it... and Bruce Bauer makes it so. I figured as much, given the number of tweaks made to KYW's look simply to get it in line with the other stations. That and the sweeps promos at least have taken on a decidedly more WCBS-esque look and feel. I'll admit that I like the music changes - I was never a fan of the cuts being used before, and it fits the graphics better than the old set. I don't like how the evening opens sound so patchwork - open theme before an obviously tacked-on bumper. not sure about Brian Lee taking over, as I'm a fan of Paul Turner. I'd like to see more of the male voice used on CW, who's been voicing the sponsor tags.
Bars-n-tone 39 Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 If Peter Dunn wants it, Peter Dunn gets it... and Bruce Bauer makes it so. This would make an appropriate mural for the Great Hall...
hopdevil 1 Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 This would make an appropriate mural for the Great Hall... Yep. Stencil it in a nice script font on the corner windows of Master Control so it's the first thing you see coming out of Hitchcock's office.
