Jess 1115
6's promos for their new 4pm news ask "Are you ready?" Well, CBS 3 just answered it. Whether it's "yes" or "no" depends on your thinking. The 4pm news is going away. Dr. Phil will move to the no-longer-forbidden 4pm timeslot, and lead into a restored 5pm Eyewitness News. Susan Barnett casually mentioned it today - ironically - during a special 5pm newscast. The day this all starts? Well, the day 6 starts their own 4pm news - May 26th. I had a feeling they would pull something like this; while they've been running 5pm newscasts sporadically when news warrants, it was only in the last year or so that those 5pm newscasts looked and felt like newscasts. So the management has to have been thinking about this for awhile. I think it's a shrewd, logical move - and not them "surrendering" the 4pm news market. If anything, it makes more sense than keeping the 4pm news - why take what will be undoubtedly be a smaller piece of the news pie when you could move Phil, go right after the Oprah audience, and try for bigger leadins to the 5pm? It's the best counterprogramming they have. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/7258-cbs-3-bombshell-phil-to-4-news-to-5/ Share on other sites
