slimshady760 0
this was in feder's column today Tracking: Technical difficulties • In the final hours of the February ratings sweeps Wednesday, WBBM-Channel 2's 10 p.m. newscast was knocked off the air for nine minutes. To staffers scrambling behind the scenes -- and to viewers staring at a blank screen -- it seemed like an eternity. Joe Ahern, president and general manager of the CBS-owned station, said the meltdown was triggered by a "major electrical equipment failure" at Channel 2's McClurg Court headquarters. Cause of the blackout was still being investigated Thursday. When power finally was restored at 10:27 p.m., news anchors Antonio Mora and Diann Burns had to make their way through the end of the newscast (including abbreviated weather and sports) without video or graphics. • Speaking of sweeps, Channel 2 again ran at least six nights in February with no commercials during the first 20 minutes of its 10 p.m. newscast. But unlike its experience last November, the station saw no discernible uptick in the ratings on those nights.
