AutisticPsycho 0
So, FRONTLINE, PBS's documentary series is airing a small miniseries of programs called "News War" Parts 1 & 2 is called "Secrets Sources and Spin" and details the battle between the government and the press over sources. Part 3 is called "What's Happening To The News" and details how the news we know it today is changing with the emergence of new technology and how the news is no longer influenced by public trust, it's influenced by profits and what shareholders want and how news is becoming more of soft infotainment news than hard, journalistic news. Part 4 is called, which hasn't aired yet but will air March 27, is called "Stories from a Small Planet" and will look at international media more specifically Arab news. I suggest everyone watch, it documents how traditional news is going the way of the dodo and the hard style of journalism pioneered by Murrow, Brinkley, Cronkite, Koppel and all the others. Sad how it's PBS that has show the world the ways it's commercial counterparts ABC, CBS, NBC have changed. The FCC has lost its' teeth, no longer is the news in the public interest, it's in the interest of the shareholders of major media conglomerates. EDIT: Forgot to mention, you can watch it online here: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/newswar/view/ Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/797-news-war/ Share on other sites

wabceyewitness 818
I have been watching this series since it began and I have to say it is very, very good. Anyone interested in journalism -- whether you are a student, professional journalist, or a news fan -- needs to watch this. I have to say that I'm not surpised at the high quality of this program, as Frontline has always done excellent work like this. It should be required viewing for anyone who's planning on going into the journalism field. I personally think Part III was the best so far, as it really shows what's happening to the industry due to media conglomeration and the loss of local ownership. Ntropolis 596
Anyone remember that show called "Breaking News" that was on the Discovery Times Channel a few years back? I remember WTVJ, KCBS, and KCNC were all featured. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/797-news-war/#findComment-6248 Share on other sites
