  1. We now take you back to 1977 where WSIU brought you the "Evening Report". From 1989, here are a set of news clips about James Stone. At the beginning of the video is a KMGH news open from that year. Also, here is a WDTV-5 "NewsCentral" close from 1984 featuring the classic "Tuesday13" theme as used on KWTX, WDEF, WNCT and other stations during this period. Wait, that's not all. Here is a KVUE news open 1994 using the "Promise News Package" by Collier Concepts. Gotta love the spinning Texas capital animation in this open. From 1980, here is an entire evening newscast on WTVT featuring Hugh Smith, Roy Leep, Andy Hardy and even Gov. Bob Graham. Yes, Gov. Bob Graham even did a workday as TV reporter/anchor for WTVT. The ID and open can be seen at 1:58 and features an unknown news theme. This is rare WTVT news material from 1980 considering this is a full newscast.

  2. As mentioned in the chat box... A brand new logo for Wilmington's WWAY 3, all in preparation for WWAY receiving the CBS affiliation on DT2. The letters aren't bad, but the 3 looks so 80s-ish.

  3. My post on Buddy Bostick's death must have drawn this out of the shadows... In keeping with Bostick's frugal philosophy, KWTX held onto news music far longer than it should have. They were the last station to use Tuesday13 (abandoned in 1990) and didn't ditch The News Image until 1997. Only a handful other stations were even still using the package in 1991! The news open itself strongly suggests someone regularly watched WFAA... In 1997, KWTX atoned for its news music sins with one of the quietly best packages of the 90s (and while the open date is 2004, the graphics are clearly older)...

  4. Hearst buys majority stake in syndication company Litton Entertainment, best known for its children's blocks on the big three networks and The CW, according to TVNewsCheck. Not far from my prediction on another message board about Sinclair possibly buying a syndicator in 2017.

  5. Not a big surprise, but I-Teams do not draw viewers like they once did. A lot of stations have dumped them.

  6. I've never been a fan of the Hearst look and never understood why it was so well-received. The color palette and typeface are nice, but the rest of it is just way too busy. It hasn't aged well, either. Simplifying it and cutting down on all the flash would make it look a lot better.
