  1. Two more of my favorite sets from then, both from ABC News on WNT-- the then-new Washington bureau w/the late Frank Reynolds (here seen on its debut broadcast, Mon. Nov. 2, 1981), and the Chicago bureau w/Max Robinson (one version that started in 1981, from the broadcast of May 23, 1983; and the other from the broadcast of July 13, 1983); also includes a shot of Ted Koppel in Washington on Nightline from 1986...

  2. I wouldn't say NEW as since they implemented the gfx almost 9 months ago...

  3. Back in the 90s WFSB, WAGA & WITI whomever was the designer had the same idea/concept. The anchor desk and some of the paneling backdrop.

  4. The whole TV-Sports thing has been bubbling over for some time now. People are dropping their subscriptions because it's so expensive, and because millions of people don't have jobs anymore. Do we even need regional sports networks anymore? Sinclair may have shot themselves in the foot since they own the former FOX RSN's, which will eventually have to drop the FOX branding, or pony up licensing fees.... It's the absolute perfect time to rebrand a network with a name that few would gravitate to, and that companies have dumped or restricted their carriage as well... Either way, it's going to cost a lot of $$$$$$$ that people are tired of paying for.

  5. From btm0815ma: the Mon. Nov. 2, 1981 broadcast of WNT on ABC, wherein the announcer at the top bills Frank Reynolds as being in the then-new Washington newsroom for ABC, and at the bottom, Frank shows off some more of that then-new studio (he wouldn't have long to enjoy it, though, passing on in 1983 at 59)...

  6. I posted this a while back but glad you enjoyed it! I was excited to come across it because there wasn't a whole lot of the "It's Time for TV-3" look online. The same tape also has most of the 5pm news on it (the beginning was taped over with WTKR from 1999... appears they used the tape to record soaps and they let it run). This gives you a look at the franchise opens, etc.

  8. This is from WTKR’s TV3 year (because the station did this look for just over a year) in March of 1995. With the flashy open that synced with “Global Village” by SAM (which WTKR Commissioned), this is the only news music by Stephen Arnold that I like.

  10. I would assume it's Scott Schreer / NJJ Music as well, but I don't know if he has contact info. I know the NetworkNewsMusic guy got the ID on the WNBC theme (which NMSA still misattributes to someone else, along with lumping NJJ in as the same company as HLC and Killer Tracks). I do, however, know that Paul Libman (a Chicago native) did the next WMAQ package, the 1985 one (and the reorchestrated version of it too). He confirmed that with me. It was in connection with a campaign "Feeling the Beat of Chicago" which is registered in the U.S. Copyright Office under his name/company. (Listen to the end signature; ignore the NBC chimes in the middle, and it matches that slogan exactly.)

  11. It was a horrible day when he passed away. No pun intended but I was like JFK or MLK dying to that station it was horrible. Serious lost WJZ it changed them forever and they still haven't gotten over it. Sad irony it that he became lead anchor after Jerry Turner death and Denise Koch did after Al Sanders died it was sad. Denise still kicking she real trooper of that generation.
