Despite the cutbacks, WBBM stayed live until shortly after 11:30pm with rioting and looting coverage. Only WLS stayed on later (still going as of right now). Kudos to WBBM on that.

So this turned up on YouTube and the uploader wasn't sure what it was: A radio program? Part of a special? No, it's a 30-minute vinyl record! It's not from 1988 but rather 1991 (though it appears the idea originated around 1989). The Taking Pride In...series was actually something sold to a whole bunch of TV and radio stations. (A list is at the end of this) It was produced by Impact Broadcast Marketing, a Nashville shop. According to this 2014 article on the KREM version (which already was online), apparently the lyrics were nearly the same for each market (with two songs being altered) — just the narration changed. Whenever I watch cbs46 (which isn't that often) I have to ask myself: "who are these people"? The turnover at the station is ridiculous. Meredith never gives the station management or talent time to implement a new strategy and let it grow. It's a constant cycle of rebrands and talent/management turnover. After years of Gannett/Tegna mismanaging WXIA, WGCL should be in a place to compete. But instead Meredith's impatience has led to no real significant gains in the ratings.

Both Davis, ex-news anchor Gerry Grant, and ex-meteorologist Bill Kamal are a disgrace in their careers. It's the price they pay for their crimes.

WHAT A BLAST TO LISTEN TO!!!! Finally got to hear the clean, full-length cuts of the KTXL news theme package, which was also used in 1982 on WRAL Raleigh/Durham/Fayetteville, North Carolina (during its ABC affiliate days) and in the late 80s on KRDO ABC13 in Colorado Springs/Pueblo

You are in for a special treat, because YouTube user 'VPR2B' has uploaded the KTXL NewsPlus music package from 1981.

The singers in the promo sound almost like Dallas to me. This MIGHT have been the work of VTS, who was based in Asheville, NC but recorded most of their stuff in Dallas (as well as having several working connections with FirstCom founder/TM co-founder Jim Long), but I certainly won’t be able to confirm anything from Hal Brown, because the Oodles World venture he was running at the time of our correspondence turns out to have been a Ponzi scheme, he pled guilty to defrauding investors of $22 million, he’s awaiting sentence and he may well spend the rest of his life in prison (he’s 70, the maximum sentencing totals up to 50 years). So bizarre to find this out, he seemed like such a nice guy over the phone, always willing to discuss his VTS work with me (at least until I started always getting his voicemail; this was a few years ago, but perhaps it did have to do with the Oodles con getting longer and longer, I guess I’ll never know). He seemed sincere over the phone, but I guess like they say, “beware the nice ones.” So we’ll have to search for news articles and other stuff (or I’d have to establish contact with someone else who was involved with VTS) if we ever want to know about VTS’ involvement in this or anything else we don’t know about. Fortunately, we know a lot as it is (not all of it reflected on NMSA - see: WRTV’s “Making a Difference” package which is still listed there as WRTV 1990/Unknown), but I don’t believe I ever got an answer from him on this package (I had my suspicions, I remember wanting to ask him, and I believe I even emailed the audio to him back when we were still talking, but I feel like I’d remember if I got confirmation one way or the other).

Surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet or that there hasn't been a thread specifically about riots and the press. Lots of violence in Louisville last night. The most extreme was a police officer firing pepper balls at a WAVE crew on live television. WAVE issued a statement. WAVE also had a car spray painted. Speaking of cars, WLKY had one of their scompletely destroyed. WLKY also took damage from protestors/rioters themselves. WHAS took direct damage to their building. Windows to their front entrance were shattered, some parts spray painted, and tear gas even got into the building. In-building personnel were evacuated their stations to take shelter. Crews quickly worked to secure the building. Longtime anchor Doug Proffitt had a brief commentary on the situation at the end of their special report around 1:30 a.m. EDT. I am not aware of any damage of violence being inflicted toward WDRB or Spectrum Kentucky.
