This should have been an OTT thing from the start. Cable is dying faster than the subscribers who are dropping it. And whatever efforts Nexstar is doing digitally (like their digital desk at WFLA in Tampa) are being buried on the web. Even as a last resort, there's Antenna TV, now wouldn't that be the ultimate oxymoron if they end up on cable . Even then, the shows they air are mostly available 24/7 on places like Pluto TV...

Thing is, Shep is hosting a specialty show on a business channel that’s running up against one of MSNBC’s star opinion hosts (Joy Reid). I doubt there were any expectations for his show in the first place, certainly nothing like NewsNation had. Nexstar may have no choice but to sell off the transponder space. What do you do with a channel that just blew up their prior identity and is slowly shedding their non-news program inventory? They can’t just snap a finger and go back to WGN America. I think what’s striking here is how Perry and Sean Compton are totally repeating the mistakes that doomed Al Jazeera America five years ago, when the lessons were blatantly obvious in this Broadcasting & Cable op-ed:

I suspect they'll bring in someone who will toe the corporate line. I say let 'em. The resulting TalkBack 16s will be legendary.

It does seem curious that SagamoreHill is getting these LPs in markets they don't own stations, but my theory is that these stations could be used for 3.0, by contracting with the other stations in the market. This way, you don't have the "shoehorning" of the 1.0 signals when a channel goes 3.0. Plus, given the early and experimental nature of ATSC 3.0, put them on a low power stick close to the main population center. Usually, these signals are adequate to cover most of the population in an area.

Actually, WPLG's doing well in the ratings and with the recent deal with WSFL, it's not much of a loss. But as far as archival footage is concerned, there are far more things they should be worried about instead of cracking down on YouTubers, see Viacom v. Google.

New station. WNDU just switched to the WBTV/WBAY package. It debuted just now on the 4pm.

Because the Network is showing the Grammys. And some stations would use its weekday team to anchor after the awards.
