WSPA open/close from 1996 (very good graphics for the time)
Those graphics are by TVBD... WSAZ had something similar.

For those who haven't seen, thenightbeat has been uploading a bunch of clips from Texas lately: http://www.youtube.com/user/thenightbeat

Wasn't that open syndicated? I've seen it on KMOV.
WTRF and WLWT also used that "video wall sweep" graphic.

I saw that opening, and several others from the page of which it is a part (wpdehistory), and while the aforementioned opening was good, one of the best (at least in my opinion) was the 1990 opening of "Action News 15." Not only was the opening music top-notch, but the opening announcement (by, I believe, Charlie Van Dyke) was short and sweet-- no beating around the bush: "Now...from the eastern Carolinas' live news leader...this is WPDE's Action News 15." The opening seemed to reflect the station ID jingle, "Action News Is Everywhere," with visuals that showed WPDE's news team all around the area putting a newscast together, reporting from different places in the area, etc.
Here's the clip:
I love that one, and WPDE's 1996 open is even better... he needs to get it up.

Not sure if this beats the KXD opens, but it's worth listing...

Lots of good stuff from Little Rock and the Mid-South:

Very nice cut, haven't seen or heard any stations here in the United States use that as a morning cut.
I know this post is from September, but I don't check the Int'l News forum
This kinda sounds like that cut... I think it's different...

This sounds like it could be a morning cut too: http://www.southernmedia-nmsa.com/audioplayer_main.php?media=opens,2293,0
I think both those are from Series 1.

That's the problem right there. I had saved them as MPEG files. None of the clips run at or over 10 minutes, I would say they are less than 3 minutes long. I still have them somewhere on my computer. What format should I save them as?
WMV or AVI

Behind the scenes at Live 5 News (WCSC)... looks to be from the early 90s:

WECT from today at noon, with the new gfx:

Whoops, I meant to put it in the other thread but that montage does have some post-2000 stuff (like the WOTV open).

I'll put this here too...

classy? yeah, um, you're joking, right...!
I suppose the CBS News theme and The Mission are cheesy, then..
Eh... I think it's the graphics. Maybe not classy, but it sure as hell beats the gaudy
from a few years ago.I find the package unique, it fits WJZ.

I don't think Chroma Cues is cheesy... it's actually very classy as in this open:

I submit WGNX's (now WGCL) 1994 open on the basis of the use of pastel colors and the spooky music...
Pastel colors were popular for stations in the early-mid 90s.

KIEM's open has grown on me, it's not that bad... it's just a slide... with music... I wouldn't call it the worst news open of all time. Their talent bump-out is okay... it's got a pretty cool, but a bit gaudy, CGI of the Eureka area. It's KIEM, so I cut them a bit of slack.
And those WKYC opens are awesome. I bet they look spectacular in HD.

Who in their right mind to sing a news music package during a news open???!!!!
Good Morning Arizonaaaa!

I wish nashvilletv.org had their clips up... they had the open from WKZX's "News 28"... just horrible.

Most, if not all of those are ripoffs of videos that have already been posted.

WKYC's HD open:
I'm sorry, maybe it's just me, but never have I ever needed sunglasses to watch a YouTube clip...until now. And advertising during the show open is so 1950s-game-show. Just not my cup of tea.
The music certainly makes up for it though... love that cut of Tower V.3.
