WTVJ NBC 6 anchor Kevin Corke bid viewers adieu last night at the end of the 11pm newscast. Corke joined WTVJ barely 2 years ago in October 2009 to anchor alongside Jackie Nespral after Julia Yarbough left earlier that same year. No word yet on what his next move is.

CBS News anchor Russ Mitchell is joining WKYC, the NBC affiliate in Cleveland, as managing editor of evening news and lead anchor of the 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts, the Gannett-owned station announced today. Mitchell said in a statement that he has “thoroughly enjoyed” his years at CBS, but was looking forward to “a unique opportunity to help create the next generation of local news in a great place and have a key role in in trying to make a difference in a wonderful community.” Mitchell, who joined CBS in 1992, is the weekend anchor of “CBS Evening News” and “The Early Show.” His first day at WKYC will be January 16. He replaces Romona Robinson, who WKYC earlier this month after negotiations to extend her WKYC contract failed. General manager Brooke Spectorsky announced that Mitchell’s 6 and 11 p.m. co-anchor will be announced soon.

Beverly Kidd announced this weekend she will be leaving KTVK later this month after 10 years with the station. “I won’t bury the lead,” news director Brad Remington wrote in a memo to KTVK staffers. “Beverly Kidd has come to us and told us she needs to step away from the business and focus on her new husband and their three children.” Kidd anchors the 9 p.m. newscast on KTVK, which is an independent station in Phoenix. Don Harman, a beloved meteorologist and personality on the FOX 4 morning show passed away Tuesday evening. To all of us, Don was like family, and the news comes as a great shock to all the folks he worked with here at FOX 4. President and General Manager Cheryl McDonald said “We are very saddened by this tragic loss. Don wasn’t just our Meteorologist, he was a part of our family and we loved him. Words cannot express how deeply he will be missed.” Don brightened our mornings for more than 10 years and he made his mark on Kansas City television. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, and we ask that in this time of sorrow that you respect them and their need for privacy in their moment of grief. KXAS NBC 5 has also hired two new journalists who start this week: reporter Ray Villeda, who joined KXAS from WFSB in Hartford, and Marc Fein, an anchor on Turner Sports. Fein will transition from sports to news as co-anchor of the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts.

KTVX ABC 4 anchor Robert Maxwell will be out the door. Maxwell has been taken off the 4, 5, 6, 9 and 10 p.m. news shows, he’s been told his contact is not being renewed. Until there anything new, will keep you posted.

KXAS NBC 5 is going back in the midday news. The station will be launching a half-hour 11 a.m. local newscast, beginning on Sept. 5th. Its anchors are yet to be announced.

New details coming to TVNT: Curt Fonger is leaving WPEC-TV. Fonger, CBS 12's 6 & 11pm anchor for 22 years is leaving tomorrow. Fonger joined WPEC in 1989 and was the original anchor of the 5 p.m. newscast, according to CBS12.com. In 1991, Fonger was tapped to anchor WFLX Fox 29’s 10 p.m. newscast, which WPEC TV 12 staffed and produced until January, when WPTV NewsChannel 5 took over the contract providing news for the West Palm Beach Fox station. Fonger's last day is tomorrow. KTVK reinstating it's 10pm Newscast. Belo independent KTVK Phoenix (DMA 12) expands its live news coverage to nine hours a day with the premiere of 3TV News @ 10 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 22. The 30-minute newscast will be anchored by KTVK reporter Carey Pena and Fields Moseley, a veteran reporter/anchor who joins the station from KUTV Salt Lake City. It will also focus on breaking news, weather from meteorologist Royal Norman and sports from Tim Ring. After less than a year at WTXL-TV, anchor Russell Motley is leaving the Tallahassee station. He joined WTXL in 2010 from Jacksonville duopoly WTEV/WAWS.
