  1. Scripps says they could be a buyer it the right deal comes up.

    http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/103560/scripps-chance-of-acquisitions-possible

Doing a quick scan of TV markets 10-100 and there are a few possibilities:

--Raleigh/Durham + Fresno: I could see a scenario where ABC cashes out of the region and decides to sell WTVD. (It also gives them a solid #2 in a growing Southeast market.) Same deal with KFSN, except they get a significant market leader.

--Columbus: Word was that the Wolfe family was looking to sell, but as it turns out, that wasn't the case. However, if Scripps gives them a nice offer for WBNS, could they change their minds?

--Oklahoma City/Tulsa: I don't know enough about KOTV/KWTV's ownership situation, but if Griffin were looking to get out of the business, Scripps would make a lot of sense, wouldn't it?

--Providence: WLNE's probably too far gone, but Scripps could probably buy it and give it a WKBW-style revamp.

    Just thinking out loud...

  2. ...and if you're a DirecTV subscriber with a COX and/or a Hearst station in your market....time to put up an antenna.

    http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/100363/no-new-retrans-contract-for-hearst-directv

    http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/100362/cox-directv-fail-to-reach-retrans-deal

I bet there are some freaked out people in Boston right now....this along with their NBC switch-e-roo!

Looks like Cox and AT&T have reached a deal. That didn't take long.

  3. there is a rebrand coming for at least one scripps station... but 'XYZ isn't it...

if and when it does happen, this site is gonna lose its mind... i can pretty much guarantee it...

no hints. i already said too much!!

Could be WKBW...the Eyewitness News brand has a lot of name equity up there.

  4. Not long ago, I said on this forum that WEWS anchor Chris Flanagan would remain at the station. Well, that's not going to happen because he's

going to Beantown. Flanagan is moving to Boston and as weekend evening anchor at FOX 25 (WFXT). His first day is on September 8th.

Guys, PLEASE look and use search before posting. This was literally mentioned two posts above.

Too many people trying to be "first" and not looking before they post.

  5. WBTV has extended its primary female anchors, Maureen O'Boyle and Molly Grantham, for multiple years. No specifics, but they have been there since 2004 and 2003, respectively.

Great to see WBTV remain stable despite all of the turnover that has occurred in the market over the past number of years.

  6. WKBW reporter Desiree Riley is rumored to be eyeing a jump to the Boston market:

    http://talkintv.buffalonews.com/2016/03/10/wiley-likely-to-head-to-major-market-once-ch-7-contract-expires-at-end-of-july/

Interested to see if she ends up at NECN until the new NBC O&O gets up and running...

Sorry to bump an old thread, but Wiley is indeed headed to NECN/NBC Boston.

  7. So WSB did something interesting last night.

Rather than show a rebroadcast of "Madoff", they instead preempted it to 2am to show a movie called "Henry's Crime". It wasn't even a big-time theatrical film - it was a low-budget, independent film starring Keanu Reeves. I can't figure out why they did it, but a) did any other ABC station preempt "Madoff" and b) is this par for the course for 'SB? (for those who have lived in ATL longer than I have)

  8. Actually... "This is KVBC / Las Vegas. NOW with Dave Courvoisier, Rikki Cheese, Weather with Mike Davis, Sports with Scott Reynolds. This is News 3 Nightside."

(NMSA - KVBC with Turn To News)

I'm not sure what this has to do with anything...

  9. ...and move Ron Gant off Good Day into evening sports. Tom Haynes move him up to Good Day.

Why? News Edge has done great under Haynes. And why would you assume their sports director would move to news?

  10. If that's the case, then don't expect KING or KTVB to lose their NBC affils either, not that it has to deal with this situation since neither KING, KGW or KTVB were ever in danger of losing their NBC affiliations for Seattle, Portland and Boise, respectively.

Why even bring it up? It probably goes without saying.

...soon, KTVX will strip the NBC affiliation from KSL and the same goes for KOIN 6 which might also gain an NBC affiliation, among others.

    But why though?

  11. Holy crap...

It's going viral amongst all the major networks, though they don't know who it is...yet.

Man, Tomasulo's come a long way from anchoring weekend sports at WKBW. He was up there when I lived in Buffalo a while back...

  12. The ladies on 'The Real' carry switchblades , listen to hip-hop and have discussed doing a 'drive-by' at The View.

Empty Burner, Empty Clip, Empty Bottle

Thanks for chiming in with that racial stereotype.

  13. yet people on TVNT (including me I must admit) often say that Nexstar is cheap (though they do have a point on that one in some markets).

    FTFY. :)

In all seriousness, most people outside of this board don't care about much of the stuff we talk about as long as they are getting the information they need from their stations. Naturally, we here at TVNT criticize visual/auditory things because we've been conditioned to do so.

I will say that Nexstar has made significant investments in several of their stations, though.

  14. Within the past week or so (for the first time since Granite abolished it a few years ago for cost-cutting purposes), WKBW has begun live-streaming its newscasts. It's like night and day comparing the station to before Scripps took over a year-plus ago.

    http://wkbw.com/live

They do not replay their newscasts during off hours, though.

Here's the noon open (w/ breaking news tag) from today:
