  1. Well, now I know where WFRV got their slogan.
  2. The retransmission dispute between Time Warner and Journal Broadcast Group is OVER! http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/entertainment/224578771.html
  3. In September, WFRV will be debuting a new morning program. Local 5 Live will feature discussion about the day's stories, as well as events in the area. By the looks of it, it'll be their answer to WTMJ's Morning Blend program. Former WFRV anchor Lisa Malak will be returning to co-host the show with meteorologist Justin Steinbrinck. The show will replace "Live with Kelly and Michael", which will be moving to WLUK after many years on WFRV. Is it me, or does the logo look way too early 90s? Kind of sensing a J. C. Burns influence in it.....
  4. Just read on the Twitters that WISN's Luke Sampe will be taking the chief meteorologist job at WFRV. Not sure when he'll be starting. He's not entirely a stranger to the Green Bay market; his bio mentions an intern stint at WGBA.
  5. Just days after wishing Tom Mahoney farewell, WFRV today welcomed another Green Bay WX legend back to TV. Former WLUK meteorologist John Chandik made his Local 5 debut this morning. Given the choice of words at the top of the broadcast, it sounds as though he's not just there on a temporary/"fill-in" basis. ETA: They mentioned later on in the show that he is there just as a weekend fill-in until they hire a new meteorologist. Still nice to see him back on TV, though!
  6. Longtime WFRV meteorologist Tom Mahoney will give his last forecast this Friday, and the station is celebrating his 40+ year career. Vintage clips are being shown, in addition to thank-yous from CBS personalities and WGN's Tom Skilling. A half-hour special will air Friday at 6:30P.
  7. Tammy Elliott, formerly of WFRV and WISN, is returning to the air tomorrow morning at WBAY. She will join Kevin Rompa as co-anchor of the morning newscasts; current co-anchor Kathryn Bracho will become in-studio reporter.
  8. According to what I'm seeing at FoxCitiesTV.com, former WFRV anchor Kris Schuller has returned to the station for its 10PM newscasts. He worked as a spokesperson for the Wisconsin DOT for the past few years.
  9. WGBA is getting....gasp!...a NEW SET!!!!!! And it doesn't look too bad [though it is small!] Teaser pic from their Facebook page. https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/614933_10150948255151960_1308690876_o.jpg [not embedding---too huge!] No word on HD, though I've seen one of their photogs in the field recently with a P2, so they are making some inroads in that direction....
  10. Please delete this post---moved to HD News Thread.
  11. WFRV is now branding as "Local 5". Yeah, I'm still scratching my head. They've changed music too [Arnold's "Locals Only", per NMSA], and some of the graphics got changed a little [not too drastic]. One good thing they've introduced is the "5-day Plus" forecast---apparently Nexstar-ese for "7-day forecast". Next thing you know, Nexstar will probably convert them back to SD.
  12. WBAY is in the middle of building their new set. Anchor Cami Rapson has been posting photos on her Facebook page. Judging by some comments, it appears Young Broadcasting is going for a standardized look. As per another comment on WBAY's own page, they moved their current set into a different studio----which explains some of the slight oddities I've been noticing lately. Main set | StormCenter 2
  13. For the past few days, WBAY has been doing its 12PM's community segments from the main desk. Now I know why----a message on their Facebook page mentions that set takedown has begun [as of last Saturday]. The HD transition appears to have begun!! I have noticed some other clues----stories being shot/edited in progressive scan, brighter shots in studio [new cameras? different lighting?].
