1. On a large number of Nexstar’s updated websites when you go to the “About Us” tab and click on “Meet the Team”, you can  go to the page, but it does not allow you to click on the individual owners and reporters and read their bios.

  2. WOWK 13 New set alert.

Nexstar’s WOWK 13 Huntington/Charleston WV has received the standard Nexstar CBS affiliate set and graphics makeover. It debuted with the 11 PM newscast. There were some technical glitches and a mix of old and new music. But otherwise a huge, huge, huge improvement over what they had under West Virginia Media Holdings

  3. WXII 12 now has a sister station: WCWG 20. It will provide a news a 10pm for a full hour on weeknights and half-hour on weekends. And a two-hour morning news from 7-9am. Don't get it, it produces a news at 10 on Me-TV since 2012...duh. This is the next WESH 2 and CW18

The newscast on MeTV is MOVING to WCWG. There will no longer be a newscast of any sort on MeTV.

  4. The difference with WRIC is that this is sponsorship of the breaking news segment. As FTVLive points out, the law firm's name will be on coverage of "breaking news" which will sound pretty distasteful when it's a tragic event.

WTRF even sponsors its HD.... right after the already sponsored News open that ends with "7News starts now" is followed immediately by "HD brought to you by Bordas & Bordas" (it's a local law firm.

  5. According to our partners at FTVLive, the Richmond Nexstar outlet WRIC sold the rights to breaking news coverage to a Richmond area personal injury attorney. No, really. On screen elements for breaking news will now be showing the logo of the law firm.

Cue the TVNT breaking news memery in 3...2...

The former West Virginia Media Holdings stations that are now owned by Nexstar have intro-ed all of their newscast even long before being owned by Nexstar as: "Live from the Frontier Communications Studio.... 7News (or 12News, 13News, 59News) begins "NOW"!!!!!!

  6. No ruling yet from the FCC. And it'll likely won't be until after the spectrum auction. Nexstar requested for a waiver on the "quiet period" in hopes that the FCC can act on it while the auction is still going. And so far, the FCC hasn't budged.

Nexstar has been operating the stations under an LMA since that deal was announced last year. And although the deal was greenlighted by the FCC in August, it hasn't been fully closed yet. So no, they don't have full ownership of the WVMH stations.

They're probably waiting on the end of the MG deal so they can close both out at the same time.

As bad as Nexstar is, WTRF can only go ⬆️, they are operating on a shoestring staff, and the overall quality of the broadcasting and news operations is BADDDDD.....

  7. Hopefully Nexstar will invest in the former WV Media stations. This Nexstar graphic grab was added when it started a time brokerage agreement with WV Media.

Living in West Virginia I can tell you the WVMH stations are in various stages of need. Of the 4, WOWK 13 in Charleston/Huntington is the most professional looking. WTRF 7 is at the other end of the spectrum. It is HORRENDOUS. Imagine a college TV station with students and neophytes staffing the news department. No creative services/promotions to speak of and a general look and feel that is backwoods reckneck at best. I grew up watching the station and in its glory days it was a force to be reckoned with. But ever since it's affiliation switch to CBS in 1980, and several ownership changes: Tri-Cities Broadcasting, Forward Communications, Wesray, Adams Communications, Brissette Communications, Benedek Broadcasting and finally West Virginia Media Holdings. Each of which lowered quality and lowered the bar overall. It is a sad, sad shell of its former self.

  8. WTVR has CBS 6 Xtra on .3, which airs previous newscasts on a continuous loop 24/7. For example, they rerun the 6am hour of the morning news until noon, 12:30-5pm is the noon news, so on and so forth. Plus they'll air regular CBS programming in the event of longform breaking news coverage.

That is pretty much what WPXI does with PCNC: Pittsburgh Cable News Channel, but it isn't a .2 channel. It's only on cable

  9. There's folks that remember distinctive brands that resonates with a station. Some have dropped the brand just to bring it back. Look at KYW & WLS. I would think folks would be outraged if KGO uses the Eyewitness News name, and KPIX has used it off and on for several years. Yeah, KPIX is not using it now, but you never know they might bring it back.

WOIO might as well go back to either Action News or just 19 News. And whether they change the branding or not (doubt they will) their ratings will still be a status quo, unless they change their content formula. Good luck trying to beat 3 & 8.

WKYC was Action 3 News decades before WOIO even went on the air, so 19 Eyewitness News isn't out of the realm of possibilities.....

  10. Nexstar has changed the name of the statewide newscast to West Virginia Tonight, prior name was Tonight Live until 2012. Prior to that was West Virginia Tonight Live. They have also started to air reports from WHAG

I believe WHAG is also airing the program at 5:30 as well.
