  1. Maybe this is speculation or not..but something to keep an eye on..The Al Jazeera network might be forced to shut down due to the diplomatic crisis currently going on here in Qatar as a concession.

    http://money.cnn.com/2017/06/05/media/al-jazeera-qatar-saudi/index.html

So this has now been made official..as part of the demands that were made by Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, and Egypt.

    http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2017/06/al-jazeera-call-closure-siege-journalism-170623135809807.html

The list of demands includes all Al Jazeera affiliates plus other news organizations that might have direct or indirect funding from Qatar as : Arabi21, Rassd, Al Araby Al Jadeed, Mekameleen and Middle East Eye, etc

The full list of demands made by the four nations are here: http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2017/06/arab-states-issue-list-demands-qatar-crisis-170623022133024.html and nothing has been stated about what the consequences will be if Qatar doesn't comply.

  2. Having the anchors say "focused on family and community" only adds to the cheapness.

Good lord, this makes the pre-Gray KALB-5 opens look like a million bucks.

That look was a million pesos for Alexandria.

  3. From Monday's Newsblues.com

Drew Soicher, the longtime sports anchor at Tegna's top-rated KUSA-9-NBC in Denver (Market #17) who left the station at the end of December when his contract wasn't renewed, has reportedly landed at Tegna's KPNX-12-NBC in Phoenix (Market #12), although his bio has not yet appeared on the station website.

I wonder if Tegna offered him that as somewhat of an apology/or if they gave him an internal transfer to start up at KPNX

  4. With the major sale of MG and Nexstar finally closing, some of the divested stations have shown up. One of those was WSLS (Which personally got the best of the deal) being sold to Graham. Here is the piece they did about the closing of the sale to Graham:

  5. KHOU 11 seems have changed as well too, and it the ratings seem to have fallen as well too.

KHOU's changes were very radical considering with the new news director from KGW installing hubby as lead AM anchor with Lisa Hernandez and then bumping Greg Hurst off of the 10P for Mia Gradney and Len Cannon. ITs bad when the only stable newscast is your noon newscast.

  6. Oh yeah, that's right... Reid, then Mike Marza, then Danielle Knox and possibly soon... calling Jeff Lennox at 4:00, 4:30, 5:30 and 6:30pm.

For now, he's still weekend anchor with Robbin Simmons, who's been anchoring weekends for at least 15 years now at 'SVN.

'SVN is the station that's home to longtimers in the market... Nerey, Stevens, Martinez, Simmons, Ferro, Shapiro, DiPasquale, Campbell, Cameron, Gonzalez, Diaz, Cruz, Fraiser, Linsalata, Lowe... I can keep going. and going.

That is true. But there are also some longtimers at other stations in South Florida

WTVJ: Trina Robinson and Jackie Nespral

WPLG: Todd Tongen (Was there in 1989 and hired off on Ann Bishop's Suggestion) and also Kristi Kreuger (guess you could put hmmm Laurie Jennings to the list who came back after WSVN)

WFOR: Poor Poor Elliot and I think Al Sunhine. Maybe Barry

  7. Couple of misc. changes.

First off..to Radar he was very well beloved and I know the staff at KPRC will miss him dearly.

Also, KPRC has added a 1 PM Pay to Play newscast Im asusming (kind of the same at sister station KSAT), where its called Houston Life. This expands their weekday midday newscast offerings to 2 1/2 hours a day (starting at 11:30 AM)

Also, former sister station to KPRC, WPLG no longer has Constance Jones on the payroll. Her last day was yesterday after a remarkable 9 1/2 years with the station. She will be headed up to Atlanta to work for FOX 5. Currently, her noon anchor slot is being handled by Jenise Fernandez and a new traffic woman Nicole Perez takes over.

In other WPLG news, as mentioned in the shoutbox, Jacey Birch was in a car accident. She is currently pregnant at the moment. Looks like the temp. replacement is going to be Shyanne Malone (their weekend evening anchor)

  8. Well..in this crazy world of TV..some changes over at WPLG:

First: Christina Vazquez who ran the Consumer Investigative portion of Local 10 left to do PR. Now it is looking like Constance Jones will be leaving the station. Her traffic duties have already been handed over to Nicole Perez and FTVLive mentioned that she will be headed up to FOX 5 in Atlanta in the mornings.

  9. When will Meredith ever cut their losses here? I'm thinking CBS still hangs on to WUPA so they can either take back their network one day or buy WGCL....

I'm thinking if Meredith doesn't get it act together(Yeah right) they could just sell it to CBS and create a combo with 46/69 under the CBS umbrella. However, I think Meredith wants to merge with another media company. Idk maybe Hearst or Graham. Time will tell on how CBS 46 goes through so many managers throughout the years.

As much as you think Meredith will cut there losses, they won't. The station is probably the cash cow for Meredith and won't give it up unless and only unless CBS makes them a pretty impressive offer.

I am glad for the new ND and I hope he is able to make some great strides with the station and bring forth some of the KVUE ideas and adapt them to Atlanta.

  10. Or will there? See, once Nexstar becomes Nexstar Media, they will have the bargaining power to make any of their larger stations become NBC affiliates (including yanking the NBC affiliation from KSL). And yes, KSTU and KUTV will still keep their affiliations regardless for reasons you've just stated. And in the case of KUTV, the conservative stance Sinclair gives it also helps it a lot considering that Utah is generally a conservative state

TEGNA is also one of CBS' strongest station groups since the former's inception from the split, then again seeing as how Media General (which is about 4-6 months away from being acquired by Nexstar) is also one of CBS' strongest station groups, I can see your point. However, let me clarify this once again. NBC has as good relations with Nexstar as Fox does with Sinclair that they invited Lester Holt into at least a couple of their NBC affiliates

    http://www.myarklamiss.com/news/news/a-sit-down-with-nbc-news-anchor-lester-holt

    http://www.kerngoldenempire.com/news/top-stories/lester-holt-works-the-room-at-conference

In regards to inviting Lester Holt, I would assume NBC affiliates can invite and it depends on Lester's and the nets schedule if he can come. This isn't a Nexstar thing. He has been to WRAL and to KPRC among other NBC affiliates.

At the end of the day, and I am being dead serious here because I am sick and tired of seeing all of this rampant speculation. NBC just like any other network is not going to just jump the shark because Nexstar is cozy with them or that Tegna is cozy with CBS. I know this year has been kind of a weird year because no one thought at all that WRAL was going to lose its CBS affiliation to WNCN. That was totally out of left field. All of this other speculation at this point is really absurd and its not just on this one board but on several others within the past month. If we see a headline about KSL loosing its affiliation to KTVX from a reputable source, than that would be the time to go ahead and report it and have a discussion about potential implications of the deal. But until that happens, stop with this unnecessary speculation on any board that is not named the Speculatron 9000.

  11. As well as identifying more NBC affiliates for them (particularly in their larger markets, except WHAG and KRON 4 for reasons already known), because soon, KTVX will strip the NBC affiliation from KSL and the same goes for KOIN 6 which might also gain an NBC affiliation, among others. Sook is a member of the NBC affiliates group and Nexstar has as good relations with NBC as Sinclair does with Fox.

This is freaking absurd. I hate kind of repeating myself, but this is almost a horrible joke to where there is no payoff.
