We got an answer on the 10 pm
broadcast tonight. It’s Sharrie solo at 10
and Rick at 11.
-
So was it Jim’s last 11 o’clock?
Seems strange they’d just do fill-ins and not name a successor.
Will they continue with a solo anchor at 6 and 11? My guess would be Brian Taft. Or maybe Brian and Sarah at 4 & 6 and Rick and Sharrie at 5 & 11?

It’s time to bring Shep over from
CNBC and take on the 11th Hour

I don’t think you need to look any further than their half-assed open and sound effects. It’s not a priority.

I’d say the days of WNBC as the flagship is gone—they been replaced by WCAU.
The perennial market leader continues with voiceovers and clear, recognizable, sonic branding.

What do they have against having a v/o for the opening?

The collateral impact to GMA if CBS snagged Stephanopoulos might make it worth it.
I gotta disagree about Jane Pauley being better in mornings. She was Brokaw’s primary fill-in for years and led NBC’s first successful newsmagazine. I think Jane would definitely have the presence to fill the CBSEN chair, but why would she want it? She has the best gig going on broadcast news on Sunday Morning.

FTVLive also had a story on this Thursday before Variety https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2021/4/8/is-z-on-the-way-out-at-cbs.
I think if CBS was smart, they go back to Hard news like the Scott Pelley Era. Use stations like KDKA-TV (who is currently one of two highest rated CBS O&O stations besides WJZ) as the backbone of this new vision. I think Norah O Donnell could also be a part of this too but I'm not completely confident on that.
CBS News needs a change of thought and vision to compete with ABC, NBC, CNN, FOX, in addition to the many station groups starting National divisions (like News Nation and The National Desk).
Group W was always the stronger station group. They should be taking their cues from what works at those stations instead of making everything a pale imitation of WCBS.

I don’t understand why they don’t use the modified Futura font like for NBC News?
-
Wonder if Sharrie is just filling in or is looking to move on?
I wondered if they were testing pairs in anticipation of Jim retiring—move Rick to 6 and 11, Brian and Sharrie at 5 etc
-
I wonder if there is a stipulation in the agreement between stations that there must be two anchors for the 10:00 p.m. broadcast?

CBS Corporate's heavy-handedness is ironic considering the market leader's success is a product of their astute awareness of and connection to the community they serve.

@Weeters can surely answer this, but I'm fairly certain CBS was only leasing the 1st floor space. Even if they do own it, they're sure as hell not gonna move back in just because no one is biting on it. That would be expensive and stupid.
Lol, right...WBBM would never do something expensive and stupid

I think this looks too much like the CBS O&O package.

Average viewer isn't going to care or probably even realize, but the reflection of the OTS screen on the viewer's left is perpetually stuck on an inverted "NIGHTLY" logo instead of reflecting what the OTS has on it. Makes sense for the shots where the NN logo is what's on the OTS... Design flaw? (Look at 1:14 to see what I mean)
This has to be a placeholder--such a step down from the CGI flyover of the statue to 30 Rock.

Is PVI vulnerable in the mornings?

Any mention on WNBC of the recent lightning strike near the Statue of Liberty and its similarity to News 4 New York’s iconic lightning strike open?

How does What You Need to Know compare ratings-wise. The Whoopi-Joy-Sunny-Sara-Jedidiah line up worked well. They had chemistry. Sara brings a light/balance to The View. It needs her to balance out McCain’s histrionics.

Watched the special and enjoyed it. Even so, as someone else mentioned, they could have done a two hour show and gone into more detail about the history. I thought it was interesting that Monica Malpass was barely mentioned though. With her quick departure a few months ago, it seems like they had a falling out but who knows. Rick mentioned that Monica is retired but that isn’t the case since we know she’s at Nasdaq.
It does make you wonder about Monica. Her departure was abrupt. It seems on the outside she was a team player and one of Jim’s primary subs. After Jim, she had to be one of if not the most tenured talent at the time she left. I’m curious.

It's truly insane to me (as someone who is very much on the side of COVID precautions) that WCBS has seemingly cancelled the noon under the guise of COVID restrictions. Seems like Judge Judy and Insider is here to stay. WNBC is operating normally / partially remotely, as is WABC. If they wanted to produce the noon responsibly, they could have.
If the justification is the frequent Cuomo/Murphy fireside chats, it looks like today was the first day that WABC opted not to broadcast it live, so that excuse is now out of the way.
I would think WCBS would want to take advantage of TPIR’s lead-in. Is TPIR not dominating its timeslot the way it used to? Even in the darkest days for WCBS and CBS affiliates, wasn’t the noon broadcast the one they could count on to be competitive? -

I'm hoping KDKA-TV gets a chance to anchor the CBS Evening News.
It better be Stacy.

How's that any different than Nightly News or Today being hosted from the Olympics host city?
I agree there are similarities, the Olympics is a grey area. The red carpet though?
-
World News Tonight anchored live from the red carpet. I have no words. Far cry from the days of What would Peter say?

Oof. Seems wrong lumping Jane in with that crew.
