  1. I don't think they have an actual White Castle brick and mortar in the South...They have Krystal...

    Nashville is as far south as White Castle goes....it's one of the few places that has BOTH Krystal and White Castle.

    Heck, Louisiana is probably too far away for Krystal itself. This town seems like the place where the cops pull you over for a taillight they busted themselves!

    EDIT: There are a few Krystals around New Orleans....but that's it. The closest one to White Castle is in Laplace

  2. and let it began for the soon to be gone WVMH stations.

    WBOY is now WVAlways.com

    WOWK is now TriStateUpdate.com.

    WTRF is now YourOhioValley.com.

    WVNS is now WeAreWVProud.com.

    WTRF is the only halfway decent one. The others.....well....pretty much are the garbage we have come to expect from Nexstar.

    Someone should seriously make a website that randomly generates Nexstar-esque web site titles...

    I find it odd they've kept the Frankly websites.....they must be running out their contract until they get one of their own layouts...

  3. Sounds like WJBF-TV has made the switch from the Media General Group Package by JDK Music to Stephen Arnold's Aerial.

    Here's an opening clip from today's Noon news:

    ....come on WKRG!!!!!!!!

  4. Miranda Beard revealed at a press conference Sunday afternoon that after WDAM received a tweet of a slide she used at a conference in Jackson after visiting her parents in TN she was escorted out of the building once she returned to work. News Director Nick Ortego and General Manager Joe Sciortino escorted Beard out of the building after they accused her of lying about her trip to Tennessee.

    Viewers are expressing their outrage on the station's Facebook page calling a boycott of channel 7.

    MORE: http://www.hattiesburgamerican.com/story/news/local/2016/03/06/miranda-beard-looking-future-after-wdam-departure/81083920/

    WDAM is essentially the only game in town....aside from the half-station efforts put on by Media General and Waypoint Media.

    At one time WHLT had a full blown news operation, but low advertiser support shut it down.

    That's the problem in small markets like Hattiesburg...a station literally OWNS the market, and once the competition tries....and later fails, the dominant station prevails and become untouchable and can do as it pleases....

  5. WBTV has FINALLY overtaken WSOC in the ratings for the first time since 1990.

    Here's the numbers from the Charlotte Observer

    In the 10pm race, WAXN still has a solid lead over WCCB, but CCB's numbers are down from last year. WJZY is still in the basement with anemic numbers despite some gains (and a sharp decline at 10pm).

    If only WBTV and WCCB joined forces....then they would be a force to be reckoned with. But given Bahakel's refusal to sell (and causing a total monopoly in Montgomery, AL if they did so), a merger with Raycom would never happen.

  6. Youngstown was a very late market to get a FULL HOUR of news at 5pm. If I remember correctly, WYTV was the first to do a 5:30 news back around 2004 when they were a stand-alone station. WKBN had a 5pm half hour show for years, and only went a full hour when WYTV's newscast was rolled over to WKBN a few years ago.

    WFMJ never had a 5pm show, thanks to Oprah, and now Ellen.

  7. LONGTIME former WMBB and WJHG anchor and News Director, Tom Lewis is returning to WMBB as their news director.

    He worked at various roles at WMBB all the way up to Primary Anchor, then crossed the bridge and served as WJHG's anchor from 2001-2014 with a stint as their news director from 2005-2010. He replaces Heather Kretzer who is stepping down for family reasons.

  8. TVNewsCheck reports this morning that Cox & Meredith have formed a "cooperative" agreement in between the two groups to share some resources, including buying syndicated programming & equipment.

    The co-op doesn't include their respective stations in Atlanta (Cox's WSB & Meredith's WGCL).

    It wouldn't surprise me if some of the smaller groups that haven't been sold yet form one for the purposes of negotiating retrans and reverse compensation. It's their only chance at survival unless they want to be stripped of their affiliations or sold off...

  9. It makes me wonder if they will ever make something out of WDHN. It's stuck out like a sore thumb long before they bought WMBB down in Panama City.

    WTVY has ruled the Dothan market since the beginning of time, and in recent years, has virtually sucked up all of WDHN's more experienced talent, including Kim Allen (now the ND) and made longtime media fixture Ken Curtis the senior reporter at WTVY.

  10. Sorry for double post but... Nicholas Russo (Chief Meteorologist at WOAY-TV 50 in Bluefield, WV - @nickVrusso) replied on my blog's Twitter (@ChangeNewsBlog) that today was KMID 2's last day in the old building and the new studio and building is expected to be launched by next week.

    Nicholas Russo used to work at KMID 2 in Midland and has a friend who still works there.

    Hopefully HD and other technical upgrades were part of the plans. This is one station that is LONG overdue for a change.

  11. From my count, Gray and Nexstar have 12 conflicts:

    * Dothan, AL

    * Grand Junction, CO

    * Panama City, FL

    * Rockford, IL

    * Alexandria, LA

    * Monroe, LA

    * Bismarck - Minot, ND

    * Midland - Odessa, TX

    * Killeen - College Station - Waco, TX

    * Roanoke, VA

    * Charleston, WV

    * La Crosse - Eau Claire, WI

    And in many of these, Gray and Nexstar own ALL of the major stations in the market. A few more have Sinclair as a third owner. Grand Junction and Panama City have Nexstar owned stations because they were the Hoak leftovers when THEY merged with Gray!

    It's just like radio did years back, the same 3 companies owning ALL of the stations.
