  1. It's the 11pm newscast based on the tease from earlier in the video. Also, this is likely the second night of "News 4 New York." Research from old newspaper clippings and ads placed the first "News 4 New York" on Monday, September 29. Sue would be moved off of 6pm a few weeks later to "Live at Five."
  2. One of the classic news themes from the 1970's has been identified! The 1977 WNEW News Theme was composed by David Amram, and called the "10 O'Clock News Theme". Someone identified him as the composer in a YouTube comment and a Q&A in a 1978 edition of Newsday confirmed it. Looking at his discography, I don't believe that it ever made it onto one of his albums.
  3. I appreciate East Carolina's efforts for getting these reels fixed (Reel 3 wasn't complete prior to this). Hopefully, Reel 1 turns up somewhere someday. FYI, I believe it is Loonis McGlohon (who donated these as part of his archives) on the piano for these and any of the Al Ham compositions.
  4. He ended up at KGET in Bakersfield in the mid-90's.
  5. At last, some cuts of this package have been found. Unfortunately, I think most of them are lost or damaged. Loonis McGlohon (who collaborated with Al Ham) donated his archives to East Carolina University as part of his estate, which had two of the three reels for On Top of It All. Reel 1 wasn't included. Reel 2 had "Sticky Tape Syndrome" which likely renders that unplayable and Reel 3 is mostly intact, save for a few tracks. What's left of Reel 3 is mostly promo themes, but does include a portion of the news theme in the clear. https://digital.lib.ecu.edu/63046 - On Top of It All Reel 3 The university also digitized a promotional reel for Part of Your Life, which is better quality than the cues on TVPMM. McGlohon and Ham created the theme for WBTV in 1974. https://digital.lib.ecu.edu/62790
  6. Portion of a KUTV 1977 News Open (with Al Ham's On Top of It All... and you can see where Peru's Pantel got their influence from) It's worth nothing that there are several full KUTV newscasts from the late-70's available from the University of Utah archives, though you'd have to be on campus or request these tapes. https://archiveswest.orbiscascade.org/ark:/80444/xv245086/
  7. Same music and VO from what WTVF used for a very brief period before their switch to "Spirit of Texas"
  8. Hidden in plain sight on YouTube for a year... here's a glimpse of a 1975 news open from KVUE
  9. Skip ahead towards the end for some cuts of "News People" that probably haven't been heard in ages!
  10. A complete WTVF newscast from 1980... shortened to 20 minutes due to CBS' coverage of the Democratic Convention.
  11. KWTV 1979 partial newscast, with an interesting use of the "Tuesday1" theme for the open. The rest of the theme was used in bumpers.
  12. You buried the lead... that’s “Streets Of...” heard on somewhere other than KYW!
  13. A couple of 1987 commercial reels from my home market, The Piedmont Triad. WXII (using the WXII News Package) WFMY (using the WFMY 1986 News Theme)
  14. Late-70's video from West Palm Beach:
  15. 1977 WPTZ Eyewitness News Open (with a funky theme!)
