  1. WVUE...WTH? Monday, the station started using the Sinclair Music Package along with U-Phonix and SMP is being used more than the other one. I'm not sure if U-Phonix is being slowly phased out, but they've already tweaked their intro/tease/rejoin graphics as well as the "Louisiana's Home Team" logo. WDSU has been running new promos for the last week and a half in which they proclaim that they are "Louisiana's New News Leader", biting off WWL's slogan. They claim to be No. 1 at 4, 5 and 6 pm. A closer inspection of the ad shows that they use Nielsen number among viewers 25-44, I believe (The source is displayed so briefly, you gotta have quick eyes). In addition, when they first started running the slogan, they had the only 4 pm newscast and I also suspect they are using numbers from "NBC Nightly News", which was second to the "CBS Evening News".
  2. After contract renewal negotiations have failed, former WDSU morning anchor Melanie Hebert is joining WWL. Announced this morning by "Eyewitness Morning News" anchors Eric Paulsen and Sally-Ann Roberts, Hebert will co-anchor the 5 am newscast with Mike Hoss (more on him later). She's also bringing the news on the "Eyewitness Morning News" with Eric Paulsen and Sally-Ann Roberts...just like Wayne Carter and Jill Hezeau did. Hebert's non-compete clause expires in July 2012, but she starts work in January 2012 as Ch. 4's Internet and social media correspondent. Back to Mike Hoss. Starting next month, Hoss will anchor both the 5 am and 5 pm newscasts. Long-term plans call for him to anchor mornings. http://www.nola.com/tv/index.ssf/2011/09/former_wdsu_anchor_melanie_heb.html
