An indicator of a graphics modification coming down the line is the fact that these new weather graphics extend beyond the 4:3 protected space. This is the first thing they have run that has taken advantage of modern picture dimensions.

Channel 6....[snip] they even have an online store.
Remember when they had a physical store?

Karen Thomas is over at WCAU now.

Regarding the whole Turn To... there are a lot of updates to that: the Australian one, the KYW one, the WMC one, the WVEC one, maybe even some more that I can't think of. I wish more was known about them.
Agreed.

I've been informed that they got their amnesty. Smart move on their part. It's not an unusual request in a striking circumstance, and very good that they got it. Otherwise, the company could make life quite difficult for the members that spoke out publicly.

The IBEW strike is over. Word is they got everything they had requested.

It's a pile of crap because they brought the replacement photographers in a week before the Papal Visit when the union made their strike vote in the first place. That would have given thfem plenty of time to screen and credential anyone that was going to be working the festivities. They're reaching at this point.
Also anyone who lives in this region knows this is par for the course the kind of tactics that their union boss John Dougherty pulls all the time. He's going to lead a bunch of his rank and file to pink slips if this keeps up
It wasn't a week. There's no way they got credentials in the span of time they needed to do so.
- The strike vote was taken on Wednesday September 23.
- The IBEW techs walked on Thursday September 24 at 4:55 PM.
- The Pope arrived on Saturday September 26.
This could have been a shady maneuver by WCAU, although I don't know how it can be proven after the fact. Say what you will about John Dougherty, but members from other Philadelphia stations actually noticed this and brought it up. I don't blame the union for bringing it up; it helps their case.

Also why would union workers tell people to watch WPVI which isn't a union shop at all? Stupid if you ask me.
Incorrect. IATSE represents some technicians at WPVI.

Newshound, you work at the assignment desk. Don't you have any insight here?

Union technicians at WCAU initiated a strike late this afternoon. This group included photographers and control room personnel. What you saw was the result of the strike starting and members leaving their posts.

I don't think Bob Kelly was there, though, strangely.
Nothing strange about it. Bob is on vacation this week.

More like they can't pre-empt NFL football.
CBS3 will just air coverage on the CW Philly.
Exactly.

OK, see you in the hallways. I'm out.

Because you are presenting yourself in a role that I cannot believe you inhabit. For such an insider, you're spreading Chakka Fattah "news", Sheena "does have a big ego" and "is obsessed with her appearance", Tracy and Vai "talking trash" but you don't know where a major part of the technical operation of NBC10's newscasts are. I've been around when "insiders" have spouted off to the press and in forums about, frankly speaking, bullshitty content like we've seen in the last few pages. It's not good for the station's image or its people. If you value your coworkers at NBC, perhaps you would ruminate on this. Hey, you know, some of them were at KYW when the Larry/Alycia shitstorm hit. Ask them how great that was to work through.
Now, tidbits about the cost of flying the chopper or speculating cool anchor pairings are more like the discussions I've seen here.
My apologies for the detour in this thread, but this doesn't smell right to me.

- I love when people ask me questions about nbc10, since I'm in the know there.
-The digital operations center is located somewhere near their control room - that would be more of a question for anzio williams, as I'm not very sure- I forget where it's specifically located.
So, you're "in the know" with gossip, but not actual, physically verifiable facts? Control rooms are NOT hard to find.
-
If you worked at nbc, you'd know why. lol
I do work for NBC.

I'm just sharing inside info I have. I feel like station insiders don't get a voice, that's why I'm here. I have stuff on glen and sheena 2 -- they can't stand each other, but, I was going to save that for a later date.
WHY do station insiders need a voice? Are you oppressed? You work for NBC; they pay you. What good comes from spreading rumors and office gossip stories? Will it help your job? Will it put your organization in a good light?

You've been in the business for 30 years? I'd think you would be wiser than to come here, possibly jeopardizing your employment (yes, this board has been checked at the stations), to offer dirt and heavily push your agenda against Tracy, whom you've mentioned three times in your first four posts. You write with the enthusiastic discovery of an intern that thinks they heard something special. News Flash: You didn't. #countonit
If you want something in the papers, go offer it to whomever replaced Dan Gross.

I know a few of the contributors thanked in the link above. That's a solid group. Should be a good book.

A rebrand of their sports department and another male weathercaster for weekend mornings.
Rebranding sports isn't going to help. That stuff is going the way of the dodo. WCAU pawned sports off to CSN just fine. KYW (TV) was going to do the exact same thing a few years ago; there were negotiations. The money wasn't right and Comcast buying NBC was just coming on the horizon so it fell apart.
It's not worth paying for a sports anchor (or more) and separate sports producers for -if you're lucky- two minutes of content. They could easily get someone from WIP to do it, much like KYW-AM has done.

Also reading that Kathy Orr and Beasley Reece are out.

New GM + new News Director + low ratings = changes.
