  1. Monica is great when anchoring solo. Right up there with Gardner frankly, and much better then when she is co-anchoring. Granted she is great co-anchoring too, has great chemstry with Rick, and is good at banter (except for her laugh), I just think she is even greater when anchoring solo for Jim, and now at 10:00.

  2.

Possibly, but remember Sarah filled in at 4pm a few days this week, so maybe it's just comp time for her. Eva was off this morning, so it could have been the same deal for her, too.

I think Eva posted on twitter she was going on vacation back on Friday or so, thats why she wasn't on this weekend.

Gets that's the closest we'll get to seeing ratings.

    If you don't feel like clicking, A25-54 share for 11pm news in Philly: 6 - 49%, 10 - 28%, 3 - 23%

No suprise 6 is beating both 10 & 3 badly, but i'm kinda suprise how close CBS 3 is to NBC10. 3's product has been so bad these last few yrs I thought they were a distant last place.

EDIT: nm, just looked at the 6:00 PM numbers. Clearly CBS 3's close ratings to NBC 10 at 11 is due to strong network leadin (CBS #1 network), while NBC10 probably gets weak leanins on most nights (NBC #4 network)

  4. Thats because it was not a ch6 idea, It came from the higher up who operate the ABC O&O's and made all the ABC O&O's use and promote it, because the company behind the technology (IM360) paid ABC local to do so. So ch6 did what was required of them and then quickly ditched any mention of the product. Same company also paid for Conan360 on his show.

  5.

I wonder if Sharrie Williams will take over the 4 pm slot with Brian Taff? She still really doesn't seem to have a definite purpose.

I don't watch the 4pm very often or the 10pm on PHL17, so I don't have much of an opinion, aside from the time I saw her in a breaking news situation and she wasn't the best ... but that is hard to do on the fly and a skill that comes with time.

Short term I would say yes. It's probably hers to lose long term too.

Oh, and yeah I remember that breaking news. It was really painful to watch, and they even had to get Jim Gardner to come on (I think Taff was on vacation) and co-anchor the live coverage. Probably one of the few times Jim has co-anchored any telecast.

  6. FYI that PHL/6ABC image has been used onair for several months as a station ID/TOH. They have a few other various ones like the zooballoon inflight. They show them before some program starts. The voiceover for this particular shot is "you're watching Philadelphia's own 6abc"

  7. Big loss indeed, but I gotta admit I lost alot of respect for her when she dedicated one of her 10 investigates to confronting a comedian who went on a panty-raid at her house, and then shared the details on radio. By confront I mean her investigation was really just mimicking the radio stunt, but worse with cameras, going to the comedians room and going thru his things for the entire nbc10 viewership to see.

Of course this was when NBC 10 was still in it's tabloid 10 days. Doubt she would've been allowed to do that sort of report today.

  8. I dunno about mentioning it, but there definitely is some sort of Disney/360 partnership going. ESPN is using 360, other ABC O&O's are using them, and they all seem to use the same tagline about you "controlling" it, which the im360 itself says when describing their product. Here's ABC 7 in NY promoting their 360 http://7online.com/weather/new-360-cam-on-roadcam-7-/199071/

In anycase this was clearly not a WPVI newsroom idea or response to another station.

  9.

They pretty much shit their pants when 10 bought Skyforce 10 last year. I can imagine the meeting of how this little brain storm came to be. Something to the effect of "oh no we're not the only one with unique aerials anymore. Quick how do we make Chopper 6 stand out? We can't put a reporter in the chopper. 10 already does that. We can't cover as much ground in the air as 10 does cause their chopper is better. I know let's put a 360 panorama camera on it that the viewers can play with! Brilliant!"

I think your giving the power of choppers too much credit. Afterall it's not the 80's anymore, and it was not too long ago every station except 6 was pooling choppers to save money. If 6 really wanted they could get a faster chopper too, and 6 has done the reporter in the chopper before too.

What is really happening I suspect is im360 is paying ch6 for all of this. You will notice when you goto download the app, it isn't a ch6 app. It is IM360, which like earthcam is full of 360 cams. Action news anchors are even saying the product description https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/im360/id437314677

The biggest change I see is, instead of just presenting something and acting like nothing is new, they are developing ad campaigns. and such about it.

In the 90's when they got a gyrocam they promoted the hell out of that.
  10. I think a new set is compeltly possible. Keep inmind ch6 got a brand new set in 2006, despite knowing they would be moving to a new studio in 3 yrs, and as already mentioned there's a good chance ch10's move won't be ontime.

  11.

One more thing - tonight's 6pm news had a full close, with the "From Channel 6..." announcement. First time I've seen them run that announcement in months. I got it on my FiOS box but not the TiVo that I can more easily transfer things over from...

I saw that too, and was surprised. Must've been running early with the sign off.

Usually they do the full close for the Sunday noon broadcast however.

  12. Well Talk Philly is on CBS3 not channel 6, but its basically a news/life style hybrid. Kinda like all that & more from nbc10 back in the day. First 10 minutes is news, then some segment, usually a interview, workout, or cooking. Then they do the weather, followed by another life style segment to close out the show.

  13. Oh yes, to be fair it must be very hard to go onair minutes after a story breaks with little info, no reporters to cut to, and only a few camera shots, while havning to continuously talk. She just should've never been on by herself. She was literally making "uhhhhhhhh" sounds as she was trying to find words to say. Brian Taff would've normally came on with her, but he is off this week.

  14. I'm watching ch6 right now, with Shirleen Allicot anchoring breaking news of the bad plane landing at PHL, and she is awful anchoring off-the-cuff / no teleprompter. I can feel her struggling to find words to say / fighting off the dreaded dead air sound.

As I finish typing this, she has Dan Cuellar via phone to talk to, and sounds better when she has someone to talk to.

7:50 Update: Jim Gardner has joined her to co-anchor.

  15. Eva Pilgrim tweeted last week some pics from a promo shoot done in the middle of the week with Nydia Han & Chris Sowers

So I take that as a sign that those 3 are soon gonna be the official weekend morning team, which pretty much means Perez is weekend nights. Eva BTW when hired was said to be fired for weekend anchoring. Since they knew Rob was gonna be retiring, I think its safe to say the position was Perez's to lose from the start.

  16. I always watch 3 in the morning, cause I like Erika Von Tiehl & Ukee, and I just find them more entertaining then 6 or 10 in the morning. However I don't watch 3 anyother part of the day.

As for Nicole Brewer, like I said when this was news, that was just her sort of way of bantering. The clips online were taking way out of context, and in some were edited to make her look even worse.

    For example in this clip

it appears Nicole is picking an argument with Carol, and then Carol suggests that Nicole probably regrets what she said as well as implies she had something to drink.

but in the unedited/out of context clip as you can see here

a report about Reese Witherspoon's DUI arrest was used as the leadin to weather, and Carol's whole i'm sure she regrets that "glass of whatever" was about the Witherspoon story, and not directed at Nicole.
