It appears Canadian Traffic Network's TV helicopter services are no longer exclusive to Global, at least in Toronto anyway. Explains why CityNews Toronto got Global Toronto's old helicopter. https://trafficnet.ca/en/markets-stations-tv/

Good Morning America expands to 3 hours, taking up an afternoon timeslot: The Chew is being sacrificed to bring the 3rd hour of GMA to life.

Was this the first time Sean Lewis has filled in for Larry or Dan?
-
She did stellar work as Global's provincial politics reporter for CITV and CICT Calgary (based out of Edmonton), and did great work for Global National and The West Block. On top of the layoffs announced across Global News yesterday, this one IMO is a blow to the news organization.

I thought Tom Negovan to be ambitious enough to go after the primary anchor chair. Not that being a senior reporter is a bad thing. Just a thought, but I'm wondering if Larry ever had a conversation with their news director to discuss the possibilities of replacing Suppelsa...
-
Agreed, Tom Negovan should be on the anchor desk at WGN. Ben and Lourdes should also get 6:00 along with their 4:00 show. Also, this has probably been said in this thread, but 4:00 is NOT "evening". Anyone know how Dan and Lauren rated while filling in for Larry and Robin in the mornings? I'm kinda hoping down the road WGN would give the morning B team 4-7 AM and give Larry and Robin 7-10.

Or Skilling. Not that I want either to retire now.

Also, I have noticed this week his read has been a lot more monotone, at least compared to when he was anchoring the weekend editions of CBSEN. He doesn't feel as animated or engaged this time around.
-
For practical reasons, now you have to dedicate 15-30 seconds for the montage at the end of the show, instead of possibly eating that time up for other stories and having just a quick goodbye on some nights. For reasons based on TV geek-ery, we lose those nice affiliate shots, sweeping camera moves in the studio, and hearing the theme's closing cut without natural sound or someone talking in the background.
-
A couple of superficial observations: 1. Noticed the return of the old voiceover on the open. 2. I've always liked Jeff Glor, but Jeff needs to slow down his reads. 3. The lower thirds are way too big. I don't like the persistent headline L3 during the story. Leave that for CBSN. 4. I don't like the montage at the end of the show. 5. Glad to see the CBS Evening News logo match the CBS network logo. Also the CBSEN logo is in a nice linear arrangement, instead of the goofy looking logo we had before. 6. Happy that CBSEN kept the same music.

Do you think WGN will rejig the schedule to have the 4-6 block go to 7 AM?
-
I've also noticed that WGN (and KTLA for that matter) no longer post Facebook videos of any funny banter that happens during the show...
-
Thanks! Didn't know MNF was offered to the local O&Os or other local stations. One other thing I noticed this morning, WGN showed a control room shot with a fully staffed control room. The morning show isn't on automation (surprising).

Does anyone have any details about how WGN managed to get rights to air the Bears/Vikings game tonight? The only info I found was a corporate release.

525,000. Global National and CTV National News both out-rate The National. Numeris' Top 30 list for June 5-11 shows that The National didn't crack the top 30, but GNat and CTVNat did (you'll also see the aggregate numbers for the local CTV News at Six and Global News Hour newscasts). http://assets.numeris.ca/Downloads/June%205,%202017%20-%20June%2011,%202017%20(National).pdf In regards to sports bumping The National, it's no different from the American networks bumping their network newscasts for sports. Also, I totally missed the fact Wendy Mesley and Peter Mansbridge were married to each other for a few years.
-
I dunno... if they took the viewer feedback regarding Ana that seriously, they would have taken her off by now and had Cortney Hall or someone else anchor. I betcha if Facebook was around back when Robin started anchoring, they would have said the same thing.
-
Figured out that it was live. There were clues such as the live shots behind Tom's graphics, the time stamp on the radar loops, and the tease to sports featured Tom on the desk. Good on Tom, I would have expected most weather people to pre-tape and not bother staying late.
-
Does Skilling pre-tape his weather if the 9:00 is delayed due to a Sports broadcast?
-
Tribune made their own newsroom software right? It's browser based? EDIT: Found the info about Tribune's in house TV/newsroom/playout systems. Amazing how the stations are running off of essentially consumer grade PCs (there's probably an actual server or two somewhere in the mix). http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/103819/diy-tv-tech-powers-tribune-newsrooms-mcs

Will they still have separate on-air staff for news and traffic from 4-6, or will they just have 1 person like before?
-
Was there something about Erin Ivory that didn't work out in terms of her being the 4-6 AM anchor? I thought she got bumped back to traffic only because they needed to find a place for Lourdes.
-
Would WGN just put Erin back as anchor from 4-6, and have Konrad do weather from 4-10? (Unless he tells management to 'stick it')

Interesting developments happening at Global BC in Vancouver. Steve Darling and Randene Neill, both longtime anchors at the station and co-anchors of Global BC Morning News, are leaving within weeks of each other under different circumstances. http://vancouversun.com/news/local-news/randene-neill-announces-she-is-leaving-global-bc

I was not expecting a) they would have the news ticker, b) they would be on the news set. I thought they would be in the other studio. Fun to watch so far.
