That I'm aware of they did use Ranger 8 helicopter for a few severe weather coverage towards the end of the usage of the helicopter.

BTW, KTUL brought back the Ranger 8 name recently, just not as a helicopter.

  2. KTUL will finally get some competition at 4pm.

According to a new station promo, on August 5th, KOTV will launch a new 4pm newscast.

The move pushes Dr. Phil back to his original 3pm timeslot, replacing the ending Millionaire.

  3. Variety posted a profile on Nexstar and interviewed Perry Sook on Friday.

    Quote

“We have no aspirations to be a national anything,” Sook says. “Our company goes from Burlington, Vermont to Honolulu and each of those communities have different needs and different tastes. We do three things that are vitally important: We produce local news content. We deliver entertainment and information. And we help local businesses sell stuff. Those are our reasons to exist.”

  4. KOTV morning anchor Rich Lenz (previously a sports anchor at sister station KWTV and WDSU in New Orleans) announced on Facebook today that he is leaving the station on Friday after 11 years to start a marketing company.

  5. KJRH has made some changes to its' daytime schedule.

The station's midday newscast has moved from 11am to noon, joining KOTV and KOKI at that timeslot. 'Days of Our Lives' has moved from noon to 1pm, replacing the 4th hour of 'Today', which has taken over the 11am slot.

  6. Funny it took Griffin this long to acquire radio stations, on account it has owned the Radio Oklahoma Network syndicated news service for at least 18 years now. Also, the deal creates strange bedfellows for the stations, since they'll be going from being sister properties of KJRH to being sister properties of one of its chief rivals, KOTV. This is duly noted considering that KFAQ -- which essentially founded KJRH in 1954 -- is involved in the deal.

And KFAQ simulcasts KJRH's morning show.

  7. KJRH will be getting competition at 11am. KTUL will be launching a midday newscast at 11am starting Monday, replacing Rachael Ray. This means all 4 Tulsa news stations will have midday shows, with KOTV and KOKI competing at noon.

  8. Tulsa's Scripps outlet KJRH has released its morning anchor pair of Taniya Wright and Daniel Winn.

It's a shocker when you get fired before the end of sweeps. Now the station is looking for replacements.

Today, KJRH announced its' new morning team, comprised of 2 KOTV vets. Former anchor Scott Thompson and recent hire Lisa Jones, returning to TV after 16 years.

  9. I saw a report saying he's staying in market and may be heading to KJRH. Probably would have to wait for the non-compete clause to expire though.

Interesting, and wouldn't be the first time. Taft Price was picked up by KJRH from Ch. 8.

  10. KTUL announced on their 4pm that Chief meteorologist Mike Collier has resigned after over 16 years with Channel 8.

BTW, this leaves KTUL with 3 meteorologists, which is actually the lowest in the market, market leader KOTV has 6, KJRH and KOKI have 5.

Also, KOTV reporter Tony Russell has recently joined KJRH.

  11. Longtime KOTV meteorologist Dick Faurot is retiring this summer after four decades on television, 24 years at channel 6, and 18 years previously in Lafayette, LA. Lacey Swope from OKC sister station KWTV will take over.
