This weekend is Jonathan McCall's last weekend at WDAF-TV. The weekend anchor is moving to KRON-TV in San Francisco, where he will also be weekend anchor and part of the anchor team on KRON's digital steaming channel. McCall spent a little less than a year in Kansas City.
Wow - He has jumped around quite a bit. He was at Spectrum News here in Charlotte for a bit (literally, outside my apartment), after coming from WJZ. Thats a lot of moving around!

WSOC quietly added an hour long 7PM newscast on WAXN, anchored by Damany Lewis and Allison Latos.

Wouldn't they need a seperate set to make a South Bend-produced WXLV newscast work, especially if there are any WNWO newscasts live at the same time?
Lol they didn't even need that much, because it was Spectrum News on WXLV. WXLV never really had good luck there, you have 3 powerhouses, and the triad just can't support that many news operations.

Apparently WSOC-TV's noon newscast is back to a full hour now starting earlier today.
Finally. They usually had garbage and 12:30 so I am happy they finally fixed it.

For an in-house package, that is outstanding. Very nice. The gfx dept at WAVE deserve a pay raise.
I wish this was the WBTV package (with Teal instead of Orange, tbh) This is probably one of the BEST packages I have seen in a while! The other Gray gfx (besides 'OIO) is not as good.

I know I am among the minority, but I love it. I feel like it is TEGNA done correctly. It is clean, slick, and I really like the music. I think with a few tweaks per market for edgier cuts, I think that will make it pop for larger markets.
The music actually reminds me of 360 from KLAS.

Anywho, here's the open from last night.

This is much better than the WBTV open IMO.

Good - Because Ch9 EWN hasn't been the same since she left. (I still watch it over everything else though.)

Not just the text, but some of the animations are clunky as well. I'm specifically talking about the end of the open when their logos pop forward and begin to spin back. There are a couple awkward pauses that don't need to be there. It just doesn't look completely finished.
Yes, I think that is what I mean. It looks unfinished and its awkward animations and pauses. I am wondering if the larger markets are getting a more "pizzazz" package, while smaller markets, something lesser. But, it doesn't surprise me with Gray. I always thought the WRDW graphics were awkward and horrendously bland also.

So, I have been trying to put my finger on it. I love the WOIO graphics, I think they are great. But WMC, KLTV, KTRE gfx, are not as good to me. I feel like the graphics are dull, and don't necessarily entice me to watch the newscasts. I know it sounds really insignificant, or petty. I think I was just expecting so much MORE in these new Gray graphics.

Can't wait to see how Gray is gonna do WBTV honestly.
I was thinking the same - I wonder if the WBTV package would be similar to the WOIO package?

It's the reincarnation of 7 Too!
Gotta love the play on the call letters. WDBJ and WZBJ. Haha I love it.

was watching WSB this afternoon for the snow coverage. Then they ended the newscast they ran a Cox Media Group ID with Scott Chaplin saying "WSB is a Cox Media Group station". Any other Cox stations doing this?
Yeah WSOC/WAXN started at the beginning of the year.

WVEC launched a new, more dramatic format for their 11pm newscast last night, "Now at Eleven".

It's becoming more evident that Philip Townsend is being groomed to take over for whenever David Alan retires...
Well, I just found out apparently, it was a one-time thing. Or at least that what their Facebook Page says.

Isn't this like the mess their sister station was starting, WTSP?
-
WTTG did use News Edge for their 6 and 11 newscasts.

DCRTV reports that longtime WUSA 9 morning anchor Andrea Roane has been demoted from the morning and noon news, to strictly doing the noon news.
As a DC native, this one really pisses me off. I grew up watching her originally on the 6 and 11pm news with Gordon Peterson, later moving to mornings with Mike "Buck" Buchanan, later Mike Walter, and I was so happy to see her again when I came back home for good last spring.
I am a DC native too. Andrea Roane has always been a superstar. This pisses me off too.

I'm surprised they haven't done so either, since their sister ABC stations WFTV and WSB air hour-long 4pm newscasts. Plus, they can either move Dr. Phil to WAXN or in WRAL/WRAZ's case, put the 4pm newscast on WAXN.
But I see WSOC/WAXN, just like WFTV/WRDQ, so that may not happen. I can only see WSOC kick out Dr. Phil to WAXN in favor of a new 4pm newscast, but I don't think that will happen anytime soon either.
If anything - - - WSOC would move Phil to 3 when FABlife is cut, and then Have a 4 pm newscast. However, right now, I dont know if they have the staff for that, because they just lost quite a few anchors.

Kind of a Knockoff - But I think it is a pretty nice ...interpretation of the final BELO opens:
-
Probably 2 anchors at 4, and 2 anchors at 4:30 - I thought Lasalle wasn't going necessarily be an anchor?
-
I was checking around Toledo to see what was going on with their water issues, and I went to WNWO's site.
Since it was a former Barrington station, all of the former Barrington Stations have essentially kept things the way they've been, including their websites. Same can be said for Fisher.
I remember in the initial news that Barrington was going to be purchased, that the HQ and their employees would be kept. It looks like the same is true in Seattle, with Fisher's former HQ functioning in a similar capacity, aside from some layoffs.
I'm wondering now, since these companies were purchased whole, if Sinclair will be keeping these operations status quo (for now), and given Allbritton's proximity to Baltimore (from Alexandria, VA) if the same can be true? Absorbing this many stations, this approach seems to make sense, the only difference is that they still report to Sinclair, but can carry out their duties as they've always done due to Sinclair's explosive growth (and likely inability to perform such tasks from Baltimore, necessitating the load to be picked up by the former HQs).
Well - Like WKRC, I know they were acquired by Sinclair in what, 08? I haven't seen anything about significant changes with them. Maybe Sinclair won't do any damage at all.
-
Aren't all COX's ABC affiliates like that also? WSOC doesn't use the ABC logo on anything at all.Somebody pass that to WSB-TV/Atlanta there no ABC logo attach to that golden 2...Wish they would go ahead and place the network logo next to the station number.
WBFF New Graphics, possible new Sinclair Graphics?

Hmm, I thought it was because at one point, 4:00 was called "Focus at 4" or something? If it isn't then, yeah, that is strange lol. I wonder if 4:00 is a different format or something (pre-COVID 19)?
