  1. I don't lurk in here because I try to think about Sinclair as little as possible, but I stumbled upon this job posting for a news producer for a national morning newscast. It's based in Arlington, VA (presumably WJLA) and was posted this week. I didn't see any other postings that you would associate with an upstart national project, such as an EP, anchors, reporters, and whatever else, and there aren't any postings on the SBG careers site either. Anyone have any idea what's up with this?

We are looking for a dynamic Newscast Producer for a Washington, D.C.- based national morning newscast. Our goal is to offer audiences on multiple platforms something different. The kind of coverage they care about, the kind that impacts their lives – but that they cannot find anywhere else.

This position requires strong skills in journalism, leadership, and creativity. The candidate will oversee the day-to-day production of morning newscasts. This position will also work closely with the Executive Producer, Director, and Assignment Desk on the newscast and its content. In this position, you will contribute content to newscasts and digital platforms.

  2. Apparently WITI was one of the very last stations in the country still using Opus, the homebrew newsroom software that Tribune scraped together during bankruptcy.

iNEWS may be a time warp back to 1995, but I guess at least it gets the job done.

  3. Not sure to what extent this applies, but some non-Nexstar stations that have content sharing agreements with Nexstar stations in adjacent markets are now being told that their partnerships have been suspended.

  4. SF Mayor London Breed expressed her support:

I have to wonder if he's getting to be senile or something. He is making less and less sense as the years go by, and he continues to write things that are clearly made up.

The other person who doesn't look good coming out of this is Chuck Barney at the Mercury News. He wrote that story about Kimberly Guilfoyle reportedly going to KTVU using Lieberman as his only source. He didn't even bother to reach out to KTVU or Guilfoyle's rep. Then, once there was a ton of blowback, he tried to cover his tracks by reaching out to a handful of KTVU people after the fact to see if there was any truth to Lieberman's story, which of course there wasn't. He should be held to a higher standard given that he's a supposed journalist and has a much higher platform than blogspot.com.

  5. No matter what sort of regulatory gymnastics they're doing here, this is bad news for KTVA. GCI had deep pockets and basically handed KTVA a blank check to run their news department. It is/was a quality operation. At one point, I believe they had two helicopters and an airplane in order to cover the state. They also used to still send reporters on location to places far outside of the market. Seems like the writing's on the wall that deep cuts are ahead.

Just the fact he came from Fox News makes me skeptical.  And how Megyn Kelly absolutely BOMBED two years ago with her disasterous stint on Today makes me cringe even more.

CNBC is such a different audience than the Today Show. He'll be fine. They probably learned from mistakes made with Megyn and Greta and realized that it would be safer to put him somewhere like CNBC than to thrust him onto MSNBC or the network.

  7. On the other hand, it wouldn't surprise me if some small market stations actually did try to do something stupid like launch new graphics right now. I know of some backwater stations where the managers are still pretending like everything's normal right now and are having far more people come into work than there should be.

  8. That story is from January, and the cuts were announced in 2018. The government announced big cuts then to not just France Télévisions but also Radio France and INA, which is sort of a historical media archive service.

Since the pandemic, France 2 and franceinfo: have been simulcasting a joint Télématin/6h30-9h30 newscast, though it's really just franceinfo's regular morning news. Franceinfo: has also been airing the main France 2 newscasts at 13h and 20h one hour afterward, and they've also been doing a taped pandemic special at 22h.

Curious as to why, maybe WJZ or WBZ isn't taking over WCBS's news broadcasts they are closer to New York.   Is it because KCBS is a bigger news operation?

Hard to put on a show for another station if you're trying to put your own show on the air. It's not impossible, but KCBS can probably produce a higher quality show for WCBS because of the time difference.

  10. I don't think KMGH has launched yet. The weather graphics have changed, but everything else looks old. That first video must have been a rehearsal or something. Notice how the super has some placeholder text in it.
