Seems that Today is making some gains. I haven't watched any of the Big 3 morning shows in months, so I couldn't begin to speculate on what Today is doing right (or GMA doing wrong) that could causing this gap to close some.

CBSTM is still the dark horse that both networks are ignoring, however. My what a storm that will be if/when the day comes CBS is suddenly #2.

I guess I don't understand why they didn't just use the main studio?

She'd probably fit more with Sinclair or Nexstar since they both have a bias towards Republicans, though I'm surprised Scripps kept her despite her bias. In fact, I wonder what the employees at KJRH think about that.
They cited an employee from the station in the article who expressed concern that any edits to their stories that were made may be attempts to push a partisan idea onto viewers.
Additionally, it looks like Scripps might have stepped in as her Twitter no longer exists, but that doesn't mean she couldn't have made a new one. It's disappointing to see that she still has a job though. She sounds like hell to work with.

People might want to watch GMA tomorrow morning.

Speaking of taglines, KSHB seems to have more or less dropped their "Kansas City's Breaking News Leader" slogan. They haven't used it in their open in months (which they cut the duration by over half) and I haven't seen it in any promos for a while.

I think that's the best thing that could happen to MSNBC in primetime. Move Chris Hayes to 6pm and have Olbermann do Countdown at 8pm. Even if they couldn't make that work, they should at the very least consider inviting Olbermann on as a contributor. He's not doing anything else, as far as I can tell...
I think they should just drop Chris Hayes altogether.

It seems that KSHB has finally hired their 3rd sports person. His name is Ryan Marshall and came from WAAY-TV in Huntsville, Alabama.

It's waaaaay too early for the Olympics logo to be tagged on anything.. The fact that NBC's been promoting the hell out of it since the start of the football season bothers me.
Probably just trying to get people interested in it early so that when they finally come around they can tune in to see what all the hubbub was about. Plus they're in Brazil this time around, which means we'll be able to see a lot more events live rather than tape delayed; a big criticism of NBC's Olympic coverage.

I hadn't seen this graphic used before, I think it's the OTS box from the V2 Sports portion of the graphics package? I like it better than the normal one at any rate. They've used it for a political story as well:
Yeah, it's the special sports OTS. KSHB has been using it for a couple years now so WXYZ probably has been as well. Sports has special full screen graphics as well.

NBC News and MSNBC are going to join forces for political coverage.

On an unrelated note, am I the only one that thinks Phil Griffin needs to go? He's been the one in charge of MSNBC during its downfall and all of its struggles, so I would imagine that someone would attribute part of the fall of MSNBC to him and get rid of him. I've thought he's needed to go for months and months now.

Don't feel bad. The traffic ticker L3 at KGTV has been repeating the same wrong traffic conditions for over 3 years. Enjoy the fun!
How is this even possible?

There really isn't a good reason to get a new graphics package other than this one being three years old. It's three years old but some stations haven't had it that long (WKBW), and it will be "new" in the ex-Journal markets (where WTMJ has had the Journal package for nearly seven years with no updates) once it's ready for them. The older Scripps stations have invested potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars in duratrans, vehicle wraps, signage, etc. that all reflect the current look, it'd be stupid to throw that all out for no real reason.
I've heard that Scripps is quite happy with this look and will continue to use it for the foreseeable future. I wouldn't be surprised to see it updated here and there, but I think the core orange/white/blue boxy look will be around for years to come.
Hmmm this is a good point. An update would be nice then, at least for the stations that have already had it for 3 years.
-
I wish that Scripps had taken the time and at least designed a new package for all of its stations, new and old, to use. The current one is years old now, so it just annoying to see them give their new stations a package that's already 3 years old and that they will use for presumably at least 3 more.

Supposedly the new MSNBC will look like NBC News if it had its own news channel.

Let the ratings war continue!
Meanwhile, CBS News as a whole is silently working their way up to the top and will catch both of them off guard when it's been obvious they've been on the rise for years now.

For that matter how often have they had 5?
well this will only be their second time around at having 5. the first was a couple of years ago with Michelle Apon, but she left after a year and they just now got around to replacing her

KSHB has hired Nicole Phillips from WETM-TV as their 5th meteorologist. It looks like she'll be joining them on their morning and midday shows. I also can't recall the last time KSHB has had a black meteorologist in the past at least 15 years.

The new desk is SO. MUCH. BETTER. Hell, frankly, ALL of it is so much better! This is what the set should have been to start off with. White is a Today Show color, and the use it well. Everything is so much lighter, and the anchor area looks much improved with that new desk. Personally, I wouldn't mind if the base was larger so you couldn't see Natalie or Al's legs, but I won't complain too much. It's better than what was there before.
Good job, bravo. A-.

Not bad on the graphics department though I don't think that show will last long.
Again, it's still on KSHB after nearly a year and a half despite the fact that it was a huge part in their ratings plunge to last place.
-
Here in Oklahoma, KFOR's set is about the same age as KUSI's is. Both need to be replaced A.S.A.P
Their entire on air identity does. Set, graphics, maybe even music.

GMA leading the way in more ways than just ratings. Pretty sure the "new" orange room will be much more similar in concept to GMA's social square
Didn't Today reveal their Orange Room first, followed by GMA's Social Square? I thought that's what it was, just that GMA came up with the idea first.

So really all they did was take out that awkward wall and made the video wall bigger.

Amy Hawley, weekend evening anchor at KSHB, is leaving the station at the end of the year. That place is a mess.
