As for why CBS O&Os are struggling, I just think many of them lost their identity.

Running away #1 12,4,5,6,11pm news. WTAE #1 in the morning. WTAE & WPXI fight for #2 and sometimes one out do the other in different parts of the day. ABC seems to have a weak lead-in into11pm so 11 usually beats 4 at 11pm.
Both those branding names are trash! CBS11 was good for KTVT. CBS4 was standard, but seem to have a better branding during their NBC days.
This is why I think WWJ needs to follow the KDKA model. KDKA and KPIX are among the better performing CBS O&O. Though WWJ has come. Long way in gaining an audience, they need to fix a couple more things. The biggest thing is finding a sports anchor and do it soon. They are able to get by for now but they will definitely need one by the NFL Draft. The hey also need the hire an anchor to replace Terrence Friday on the noon and 4 pm newscasts. Do that and they are good to go. I think their newscasts have improved since KPIX came to help them months ago but again, they need more people.
Hiring Troy Bridges from Orlando was a huge step in the right direction.

I feel CBS getting the rights to Big Ten football will help its O&O in Detroit, WWJ, Michigan football is a huge ratings draw and you know CBS will show Michigan as much as possible.

they just hired a new meteorologist. I presume this is for weekend mornings. Don’t know much about him so we shall see.
They need to hire a new sports anchor like yesterday. They haven’t had one in two months.

Today marks the one year anniversary of the launch of CBS News Detroit.

My apologies if my comment there sounded harsh; I just don’t want to take things as gospel when we don’t really have a way to confirm it, although I know there are things in the media business that Joe Public can’t be privy to. I’ll take what you said in good faith, but I’d still genuinely be shocked if they’re beating WXYZ after only a year or so. If that’s the case, good for them.
It’s a shame ratings data is hard to come by, or that they usually don’t account for streaming numbers. I know Broadcasting & Cable does spotlights of cities where they list where stations are at ratings-wise, but I couldn’t find anything for Detroit. C’est la vie, I guess.
It’s all good. WWJ seems to be making some changes behind the scenes and are hiring more people. One of the anchors who just left (Jeff Skversky) said the station’s numbers were lot better than what was expected. The info I got definitely backs that up.
They are definitely looking for a new sports anchor.

Do you have any ratings data to support this? Or a source for Jeff Skversky supposedly being a newsroom cancer? And how do you explain Ronnie Duncan suddenly leaving? I’d genuinely be shocked if they are beating WXYZ. No offense, but this sounds like gossip.
Inside info. This info came from someone at CBS. As for Ronnie leaving, can’t get into that. Sorry.

They’ve definitely improved, but it’s not without turbulence. One of their main anchors is gone, their sports anchor was unceremoniously dumped, and the ratings are going nowhere fast. To me, they don’t really offer anything that makes them stand out.
Of course, any news is better than no news at all, and I’m glad CBS finally did what they should’ve done years ago and reinstated newscasts, but there is much need for improvement.
Actually, their ratings are still climbing. They beat WXYZ in some major demographics. I would stay away from certain boards who all they do is complain and quite frankly, don’t know what they are talking about.
Jeff Skversky had to go imo. He wasn’t that good if an anchor and he was becoming a cancer in the newsroom. This and moving Terrence Friday to evenings is one if the main reasons why the evening newscasts have drastically improved.

Anyone notice how the evening newscasts have drastically improved since Jeff Skversky left?

Had a does it look like Denver?
Showing anchors do the VO and a person in the woods, along with shots of the Detroit skyline.

Copy of KCNC and KYW.

Better quality of the 11pm opening! Overall, it’s ok.

Um, Adell dropped CW. He did it by choice!! He needs to stop!

WMYD should’ve been chosen from day one. They are a much better option for CW.
Also, never do business with Kevin Adell. The man is a pariah!!

WMYD's CW affiliation is officially announced.
That leaves the question of what happens with Mission's pending acquisition of WADL.
Might not happen. FCC is watching this one closely.

I really do think Adell is not a good businessman.

The possibility of Jeff Skversky ending up at another Detroit station is getting higher.

CBS News Detroit is now available on RokuTV.

Then who is anchoring the Noon and 4pm newscasts?
Rachelle Grahmn. She’s actually really good!!!

Jeff Skversky might resurface at another Detroit station soon. Stay tuned!! As for 62, let’s just say Jeff Skversky is NOT liked there at all. All I will say for now.

Ever since Terrence Friday replaced Jeff Skversky on the weekday evenings, the 5 and 6 pm newscasts have improved. Pacing is better, and the presentation is a lot more smooth. Terrence is a much better for than Jeff ever was.

Weekend newscasts are not too bad.

He was pretty bad as a news anchor. Not to mention, he just looked and sounded completely out of place, disengaged and unfriendly.
As for the operation as a whole, what a failure
so far. They’re a few bright spots, but they havent made a mark at all. No one in the market is paying attention to them.
Not a failure. Ratings are improving. Still last place unfortunately but improving. The issue is the evenings and not the mornings. Looks like they are going to improve the Evenings. Jeff was a huge reason why the evenings overall was struggling.
He was not only not connecting to Detroit viewers, he again, was not easy to get along with.
Shaina, Ahmad, and Ronnie have all began to connect with Detroit viewers. Jeff never did for obvious reasons. This probably played a huge factor in his firing.

Agreed - she’s done a great job anchoring. Considering her career to this point was Lima Ohio and Macon GA, she’s quite talented.Amyre has stated she doesn’t want to with behind the anchor desk. This is why her main role is behind the scenes. She’s only in the anchor desk when she has to fill in.

Troy Bridges is weekend mornings. I believe Karen Carter will be on weekend mornings when it debuts. They are close to finally hiring a new sports anchor.
