  1. Recently talked with some with the station and the ratings for WWJ are improving each week. Though it’s obviously in 4th place, the fact that ratings are growing each week and growing this fast is a great sign for things to come.  This is what happens when you have a great product on the air.  Keep up the good work, CBS News Detroit.

  2. I’ve tried to like it, but I think it’s time for CBS to do away with this format all together, and just let the CW/Indy stations do an expansion of CBS News “Name Market” at 9 or 10pm.  It looks bad. especially here in the Detroit market, where our local CW station hasn’t had a live 10 pm newscast in years.

WBBM-TV also does not have anything close to a reputation or heritage that WGN-TV or WLS-TV have… or even WMAQ-TV, certainly not since Bill Applegate left in 1993. They’ve had the negative connotations of being a laggard or bottom-dweller. It’d be insane to think of WLS-TV becoming “ABC News Chicago” and stripping themselves of the circle 7, but WBBM-TV literally has nothing to lose.

And it speaks volumes about how much of a project this actually is for CBS, we’re not talking about just mere brand architecture, but systemic changes in multiple news operations (or in the case of Detroit, literally building up from nothing).

Agreed!!  This is why I believe WBBM could go the same route that WWJ did, at least with the branding.

And that's good to know that the weekend newscasts are being prepped.

Not sure when the weekend newscasts are going to debut but wouldn’t be shocked if it’s May or June.

People who are 40 and older will always know the station Channel number regardless if digital age, 3D or an AI technology. I get the younger audience have a different perception , because they grew up in a different era of television. Some didn't grow up in some would call "golden age of tv" where there was only {3} networks. However, especially older viewers who been around for a long time. The Boomers will always know that station as such...

On the flip side, it’s some of the same viewers who have issues in embracing change when it’s needed

I don't see them rebranding as WBBM News; but if there was ever a time to go big and be bold, this would be it. I have a feeling they will play it safe. I'm more interested in seeing the updates to the streetside studio.  They appear to be moving at a glacial pace in getting it completed.

I think they will just go with CBS Chicago/CBS News Chicago.  WBBM doesn’t seem to be as traditional as WCCO, KDKA, or WBZ.

Exactly what is the brandng? WCCO News, CBS News Minnesota, WCCO News on CBS Minnesota? Go the KYW route and simplify it. "4" in the black box, "CBS News Minnesota" in the blue box. Maybe WCCO is like KCAL or PIX where the call sign is famously known otherwise referencing them is necessary.

Fair points. IMO channel numbers should referenced in some way so people can quickly find the station on their tv. Most people probably say Channel 3 anyway instead of CBS Philly or KWY.

Channel references really don’t matter anymore in this digital age.  This why stations like KDKA, WBZ, WCCO, KCBS, KCNC, and WWJ are all doing away with them.  Don’t be shocked if WBBM soon follows suit.

  7. Question is, will WBBM follow WWJ, KCNC, and KCBS (somewhat) in going with the CBS Chicago/CBS News Chicago name??  Don’t be surprised if the CBS 2 name is officially retired in name and in logo.

    Speaking of WCCO…

KYW has the colors of Philadelphia Eagles

KDKA has the colors of the Steelers

    WBBM with the Bears colors

Looks like the CBS is having its O&Os try NFL team color schemes.

Got a feeling that KCNC will be on the list, and they'll be using Broncos-colored CBS graphics for KCNC

KCNC already has the CBS graphics.

The WBBM one posted is only a mock.

After watching all of the newscasts for the past month or so, I will agree that this is a refreshing take on the local news.  Yes they still have some flaws/kinks/etc to work out, but overall a very solid local news content.

Overall the feedback seems to be positive.  However, you have some crybabies from a particular site I shall keep nameless, who are not only refusing to give CBS News Detroit a fair chance, they are looking for any lame excuse to bash it.  It’s like they don’t want to like it.  Their complaints about it are so delusional and so ridiculous, it’s not even funny.  I know there are 2,4, and 7 fanboys in the Detroit market, but my goodness.

This is why I left that site, because all they do is whine and complain.  With each argument, they lose credibility.

Angry online comments ≠ accurate representation of anything, ever

The viewers who don't give a damn about the changes make up the majority opinion, and they're not leaving comments to say that.

Since I used to live near Pittsburgh yeses ago, I know they are a traditional market.  Again, to each it’s own!!!

I grew up watching stations like KDKA, WTAE, and WPXI.  Used to watch stations like WTRF and WTOV as a kid too.  Again, used to live near Pittsburgh and wasn’t too far from Wheeling, WVa and Steubenville, Ohio.

I can only speak for Pittsburgh, but I wholeheartedly disagree with this sentiment. There would be no mass freak out or loss of viewers. It would blow over in a day.

After reading comments from Pittsburgh viewers, I beg to differ.  To each it’s own.
