  1. Speaking of stations short in the weather department, I know Chris Still has been called in to work for WSAV temporarily, as they are down to 2 mets (with 2 openings). He lost his position with WAGT when it was absorbed by Gray into WRDW, but I think remains employed by Media General.
  2. Especially since a good number of MG and Nexstar stations are in 3rd or 4th place in their markets. It isn't as easy as with, say, Raycom or Gray, who have a lot of market-dominant stations.
  3. Weekends at a distant 4th place station isn't worth that much. Plus, she has all the certifications, which is a LOT more than many high-ranking weather people in even bigger markets have.
  4. I never realized Glenwood Springs was in the Denver DMA. That likely would be a significant difference maker to avoid *additional* MG station divestments beyond the conflicts.
  5. They do realize that they still have to sell at least 6 of the stations?
  6. For how much longer though? Could Nexstar screw that one up?
  7. Regarding Tegna and the Tribune stations, there are several they could pick up easily as duopoly pieces without touching the cap and at a fairly low price, in Washington DC (although it breaks up a news partnership), Houston, Dallas and Portland OR (if the FCC permits such).
  8. Also, for weather at least, markets in the west are generally smaller than their number appears compared to eastern or central markets due to much less in the way of demanding situations. Many western stations have non-meteorologists on their weather staff, while that is increasingly rare even in small markets in eastern and central states. I'm defining "western" as west of the Rocky Mountains.
  9. It makes me wonder if a move from market 210 to 1 is possible...
  10. It's the largest market network station that is not an O&O - meaning it brings in big money for sure.
  11. The smaller stations I would assume would not be hit as hard as they likely have far less in the way of tenured talent...
  12. I don't see such at other Tegna stations...why are they taking it out on Austin?
  13. WNTZ would give KALB some competition finally, although ratings would be a challenge since that station absolutely dominates. Likewise, WWTI would give WWNY some competition...being a pseudo-satellite doesn't preclude news operations (look at WKYT and WYMT, for example).
  14. Does Nexstar own any stations that lack an in-house news department?
  15. Who is the market leader now, KTBC?
  16. Something like ourmahoningvalley.com?
  17. Way too big of a jump to be competitive. Going from weekend mornings at DMA 106 all the way to DMA 9 shows weakness at the station for sure. You'd expect at least 2 or 3 positions in between
  18. That's a jump from what, DMA 65 or so to a top 10 market? HUGE promotion...
  19. It's definitely a very distant 4th place station in the market. Then again I'm not sure if there is enough money and viewers available to compete well with WWL, WVUE and WDSU.
  20. I'm a bit surprised they just didn't go for a high-ranking local station met, like Cecily Tynan for example...
  21. Money perhaps? I know AMS-certified meteorologists usually demand higher salaries.
  22. Is she a trained meteorologist? I know stations in California seem to care not as much about that.
  23. Didn't Brittani Dubose recently take that position?
  24. From my count, Gray and Nexstar have 12 conflicts: * Dothan, AL * Grand Junction, CO * Panama City, FL * Rockford, IL * Alexandria, LA * Monroe, LA * Bismarck - Minot, ND * Midland - Odessa, TX * Killeen - College Station - Waco, TX * Roanoke, VA * Charleston, WV * La Crosse - Eau Claire, WI
  25. Who could they go after next, Gray?
