1. As far as KYTX, I would guess there would be some kind of horizontal move, at least for the opens, newscast L3s, and in-news bumpers; since the current logoing tends to be more vertical. Even if there isn't a real logo change, I guess they could use the other part of the horizontal space for the titles ('This Morning', 'at 6', 'at 10' (or even the 'Ten @ 10' labeling used in the past that I feel has been unnecessary), etc.), and/or the KYTX call letters. For the opens, if they are anything like the passing squares/cubes used on WFAA's opens, I would guess the requisite roses and azaleas (floral icons that each have their own big annual festivals in Tyler) would figure in somehow, as well as the Tyler skyline. But, we don't know what the final product will be on the appearance and L3 tweaking that is supposedly to come--that should affect any logo presentation (more space, less space, what?) decision for each of the remaining stations.
2. Looks like Raycom convinced ABC that the size of the circle on this station logo would be passable (until a new affil contract?); now about that circle-7 stroke width....
3. Karen has been at KTVT since around the time of their flip to CBS. I don't think of her as a morning type, simply because of her long evening/nightly anchoring tenure. Another thing about the change, how long before they make a permanent move in the other anchor chair, since Jason Allen is considered a fill-in? Either way, I hope Karen works out in the morning. As for the not-her-idea part, I haven't heard/read anything like that, but I did find myself listening for clues during that video of her announcement to the other TV station employees about the change. I wouldn't be too surprised if there was a not-her-idea factor involved, as there is a growing list of long-time DFW anchors being shown the retirement door or reduced duties or otherwise. As for Kaley, I'm not sure since I'm not familiar with her. Her name might provide chuckles or tongue-twists for some viewers (and Uncle Barky), though--at least at the beginning.
4. For those of us who were not familiar with Bill Bonds, his career, or his contributions, IMO it is somewhat fitting to know who would be considered true peers to him--almost like a tribute. Seeing other names in the local news business that have made their own impacts similar to or equal to Bill Bonds truly illustrates to the rest of us how much he was surely admired and respected in the Detroit market. Including Tracy Rowlett as an example showed me what I must have missed during the tenure of Bill Bonds. Thank you bammy9 for posting the news of his passing.
5. Thanx for the update Thundershock. I must have missed the recent net swap announcement. The other link about London and KCEB has a link to KCEB between "Work For Us" and "Open Positions" but it maps to KYTX's site. For grins, I tried the old kceb.tv website, and it still exists, but refers to CW info (CW programs used to be on KCEB's main .1 channel) and KYTX specifically--even referencing KYTX's previous Spanish subchannel with its Azteca America affiliation. Either way, it will be interesting to see if Justice ends up on KYTX somehow.
6. Strange.... you'd think IF they had to do L3's in a promo, they might look like, or similar to, those that Gannett wants their local station's newscasts to use (BIN, DIN, whatever it's called)--not something easily recognizable from a competitor.
7. This should work out perfect for WFAA since they're losing LiveWell at pretty much the same time. As for a station like KYTX, which already has 3 channels to juggle (CBS, CW, Cozi TV) plus it LMAs the 3 channels KCEB has (MeTV, MundoFox, This TV), I wonder what they would do. Get rid of This and move Cozi to KCEB? Get rid of Cozi? Even though there are plenty of true-crime shows and police procedurals out there, how much demand would there be for a subchannel like Justice? Especially since there are other diginets already out there that don't see the light of day in several markets. .
8. " Rev'n " ????? Couldn't they use a fuller word, like ' Revvin ' ? " Rev'n " looks too cumbersome for a network name to me.
9. http://www.soapoperanetwork.com/2014/10/former-passions-star-charles-divins-becomes-local-nbc-news-anchor Charles Divins, an actor who's worked in soap opera as well as co-hosted The Daily Buzz, has landed a co-anchor position on the morning news on WDSU. He starts Monday (October 27). To my knowledge, this would be Divins' first time in a news anchor spot at a local network TV station.
10. WFAA and KXAS did small tributes to Morgan. KXAS sports anchor Newy Scruggs even opened his segment with Max's trademark "Hello Dallas-Fort Worth. Let's talk sports!" line. Morgan had been in the hospital since last Wednesday; he'd apparently had a heart condition for years. A sad loss...KDFW's sports segments won't be the same without Max. EDIT::::: KDFW has posted 2 YouTube vids from Monday night and this morning about Max:
11. http://www.cbs19.tv/story/26579422/new-cbs19-anchor-returns-to-east-texas-roots Mike Landess, who has worked in several markets including DFW, Houston, Atlanta, and Washington DC, begins co-anchoring duties Monday at KYTX. Landess last anchored for 12 years in Denver; in his 50-year career he has received 5 Edward R. Murrow awards and 24 news Emmys. He attended high school down the street from the KYTX studios so this move is a bit of a homecoming for Landess. He replaces Justin Earley, who has been a co-anchor at KYTX since 2011.
12. I wondered where Mark would end up since being unceremoniously booted from KXAS.
13. Don't know if other acquired stations with the new graphics are seeing this, but WFAA is having some issue off/on with the next 3 topics in the L3. Sometimes, the news topics aren't in the right order, or a non-breaking-news topic is missing that ends up being a segment on the news. Last night, the weather topic for the regular weather segment was left off altogether. I've gotten to where I don't even pay attention to that part of the screen, even though it takes up enough room to where you really can't ignore it. Opening-month jitters?
14. The Tyler reference I could see, as KYTX is physically in Tyler; fortunately an article or report in the press doesn't have to conform to FCC top-of-hour demands about referencing a TV station by it's city of license. As far as the Amarillo part goes, it would be a stretch (much less quite the brain fart) to mistake Amarillo for Abilene, other than an "oh it's out west, and it starts with 'A', whatever" excuse. That would be like mistaking Switzerland for Sweden.
15. Outside of MCTYW on WPVI, I don't know of too many image campaigns that lasted as long as TSoT. For those who've seen the new open, did they keep Mr. News-8-deep-voice or switch to some random generic guy to announce?
16. I would have guessed the inside of a Coke can myself. That has to be one of the poorest examples of studio sound I've ever heard on a newscast. And that would include my few memories of KLMG (pre-KFXK) in Longview.
17. WFAA has started the new map graphics. How gray and really not up-to-par, and gray they are... oh, and did I mention gray? :-p
18. I see KING has this map graphic style. WFAA just started using it recently. >Ugh
19. Another few-days-old story: Jacob Albracht said goodbye last week to KFDA in Amarillo after 7 years of sports anchoring there. He is moving on to a station in Wichita (he didn't say which, but one of you all probably will know or figure out which one) in the next couple of weeks. His weekend counterpart, Matt Hamilton, will now be the primary sports anchor and sports director at KFDA.
20. Wow, a name I haven't thought of in a while. She used to anchor (weekends?) and report at KTVT in Fort Worth. I don't remember how long she lasted there.
21. I wonder how long this will last if the Comcrap-TW deal goes through. Seems like odd timing to announce something like this if there's a question of Comcrap even keeping the service after the merger.
22. Just when I thought I'd heard everything when it comes to media....
23. Thank you!! Good it's not just in my head..... It's kinda sad to see what they've become, when I can remember well what they used to be, and how they started out.
24. Funny, I was just about to bring that up. Anybody know the status of the deal? It would be good to know what Nexstar can do to clean up (and maybe stir up?) some things at KETK/56 (much less what Mission will do with KFXK/51).
