  1. WSB broke into severe weather coverage during GMA 30 mins ago to cover a Tornado Warning for the Atlanta metro area. One thing I noticed is the lower third remained the default blue instead of red like it did in the previous graphics package. It’s a subtle change, but I thought it was interesting change from the past decade or so of seeing a red lower thirds during severe weather coverage.

  2. The (mild) bloodbath continues at WAGA!!

First Lisa Rayam; then Gurvir Dhindsa, and now...Karen Graham is calling it quits on Good Day Atlanta (she announced it in sign language, though she's not deaf herself)! And this comes just as Alyse Eady has made herself home!

I wouldn't be surprised if Fox 5 still has Amanda Davis's number somewhere (maybe Russ Spencer); she was one of Good Day's first hosts in 1992. After all, WVUE's longtime 10:00 anchor John Snell has been demoted to mornings.

That's not the only departure(s) in the Atlanta news market...

Erica Byfield is leaving WSB to head to the Big Apple. Jovita Moore announced the news live on air. Neither said whether or not she was hired at one of the stations up there.

Sports Anchor David Wilkerson is out at WXIA after 2 years with the station.

I would bet money the Whoopi portion of the article is definitely true. I remember watching an episode where the hot topic was about Kim Davis, the KY marriage clerk who refused to sign a gay couple their marriage license. She had done an interview with ABC news (ironically I think Paula Faris was the one who interviewed her). The panel was discussing the interview and you could tell as the discussion went on, Whoopi was getting more and more pissed off with Paula the more she talked. Whoopi looked like she was ready to leap across the table to strangle Paula lol.

My opinion was always neutral about Paula Faris, but after seeing her in the example I gave above, my opinion of her has soured. She should stick to GMA and stay far away from opinionated shows like The View. Playing devil's advocate and thumping the religion card doesn't really work well for her imo.

  4. As far as talent within, my initial guess was Wendy Carona (maybe even Sophia Choi). I think Wendy Carona and Craig Lucie used to anchor together on weekend evenings before he got promoted to take John Bachman's place.

On second thought, Carol Sbarge could be a strong contender to be Erin Coleman's replacement. I thought she was a long shot, but now I don't know. She's been on not only at noon this week, but also at 4, in addition to 6 and 11 today and Monday when Jovita Moore was absent. I think yesterday she was on at noon, 4,5,6 and 11. I would think if Wendy was a favored frontrunner she would be getting more airtime at the anchor desk wouldn't she? Wendy has only been on twice this week so far at 5pm today and Monday.

  5. Well, it looks like Erin Coleman is leaving WSB, according to a post on her Facebook page. She says with one young child and another on the way, she wanted to move back to her hometown in Philadelphia. One wonders if she's "moving closer to her world". Any speculation who her replacement may be? Now, I know there's been lots of talk about Stefany Fisher going to Fox 5, but this could be a viable opening for her as well.

  6. According to this article, Kelly Ripa was kept in the dark about Michael's departure and there was growing tension behind the scenes between the two hosts.

But the jump to “GMA,” ABC’s flagship morning show, represents a major promotion for Strahan, a retired NFL star.

“He wanted to make the move,” the source said, adding that Strahan, who has been a frequent “GMA” guest in the past two years, wanted the opportunity to pursue a greater range of stories and topics than he could pursue on “Live.”

There may be tension on set as well. “Kelly has been very moody and emotional the past couple of years and Strahan was dreading going to work,” said one high-ranking daytime TV veteran who insisted on anonymity.

  7. ^^Great job with the video.

I love this new look. So soft and fuzzy, yet so serious and powerful. After watching this the first time, I immediately loved this one more than the last one. The logo and L3s are the best parts. Really fits the tone of this new era for Muir and his program.

I do realize that it does have a touch of Nightly News in it, especially in the globe map, "small loading text" and use of squares.

Other than that resemblance, this is a great update.

I noticed that too, it does give off a NN vibe. I'm glad the previous graphics package is gone, I really hated it. The way they had the whole red, white, blue color scheme set up works for This Week, but for WNT it felt completely out of place imo. I like that it's more subdued and toned down.

  8. I saw this during the 8am hour, but GMA had new graphics for the teaser and a new opening. Everything else like the lower thirds appeared to be the same though. I guess they were supposed to be modified versions of the current graphics. Sorry I don't have any pics or video to show what I'm talking about, it caught me off guard seeing it this morning.

Now more changes are in store for the ever changing CBS46/ CBS Atlanta once again. From Rodney Ho at the ajc.com; Stephany hasn't signed a new renewal and is expected to leave when her contract is up, but not sure when the actual date is but it's soon.

Others have left the station as well too and the following are; Bernard Watson, Frank Wiley who now going to WEWS/Cleveland, Mike Paluska's contract wasn't renewed, Renee Starzyk wasn't renewed as well too.

Renee went on to say that "The news director doesn't speak or make eye contact with you", so what will happen next at CBS46? Will Sharon Reed becoming to the Big A? Let stay tune to the souring saga of CBS46 in Atlanta......

I could be wrong, but it seems like the root of WGCL's problems stem from hiring idiotic news directors. It's like they're purposely trying to keep this station down in the toilet.
