  1. I want Carson Daly, GONE NOW! Not after breakfast. Not after SVU. Now! God I'm so angry I could just throw a rock at a window at Studio 1A.

Why is Carson greedy for so many jobs, cris crossing back to LA and NYC and back. I don't care for Craig Melvin and to me he truly adds nothing to the show. Non of the hosts add anything, Today show is just fluff television. I stopped watching years ago but their juicy behind the scenes gossip is more interesting then the show and the hosts.

  2. I would love to see them get a new anchor desk. On a separate note does anyone thing they might be adding Craig Melvin to the Show as permeant fixture, he was on most every day durning the Olympics and was seen a lot before the olympic too recently. Mostly he contributed to Trending and appears on the Plaza with the rest of the gang.

He may likely be, I don't understand the point of keeping Carson Daly on the show.

  3. NBC Nightly News was shown 3:30 pm during the Olympics and also the Florida shooting coverage took over and Lester was in Korea. To me the evening news ratings battle does not add up cause each newscast is shown different parts of the country at different times.

  4. It’s not law to have 2 days off it depends on the state city for overtime etc for pay it doesn’t require 2 days off

Every employee is entitled to one day of rest in 7. So, an employer cannot require you to work more than six days out of seven.

But if the nature of the work reasonably requires that the you work seven or more consecutive days, you have to get the equivalent time off in a calendar month to make up for the days you did not get off in the those seven days. So, if you work for 15 days in a row, you have to get two days off in that calendar month in addition to not being required to work consecutively for more than 6 days.

  5. When I saw Lester do the newscast out in that cold weather in Minnesota, I said how stupid it was for them to put him out there in the cold.He went to South Korea which was bitterly cold, then up have high elevation of being in the mountain and when you add, travel and jet lag it is now a mess. You don't put your top anchor out in no cold air to air a newscast.

This is one of the reasons why I don't like NBC and how they handle their talent. They overwork them, when you work and travel it brings down your immune system and a reason where there needs to be more bureaus to accomodate NBC News reporters. If they can't do that then use O&O affiliates as a source of reporting from fields or breaking news.

  6. Yeah, I saw something before the Olympics that listed every place he's anchored from over the last month. Maybe the dude just needs a day off.

Yup, I am not a fan of Savannah filling in though, she has no poise for evening news and is depressing to watch. Kate Snow should fill in, I don't understand the hiearchy cause when Lester was weekend news, he filled in for Brian on weekdays. Kate Snow should have that position.

  7. I almost want to say it’s because it’s live Coast to Coast. Everything’s happening in real time and we now have to wait through entire events versus the carefully edited pieces and events in previous Olympics.

I don't watch the primetime coverage. They have been awful, the last five Olympics. I think it is because the Olympics now has become so political. It always was but it is in overdrive and it just pushes you away.

There was a post on Business Insider that said that countries are not as excited bidding to host Olympics like they use to, they should just keep the Olympics at a certain location.

  8. He said on twitter that “the best way to cure jet lag is by working”. Which explains his appearance on Sunday.

It may be a bit late for them to report from Florida but maybe there’s some exclusive waiting in the wings. His son Stefan has been on the air so maybe it isn’t family.

Maybe we are overthinking, maybe he just needed time off. As an employee, it is the law for workers to have two days off. Lester has not taken time off for the last couple of weeks. I know that television can be a 24/7 business but he probably needed to take some time off.

  9. I wonder if Lester is planning for a newscast from Florida.

Yeah I was surprised to see Lester in the NN studio earlier this week. Did he come back specifically for the mass shooting news out of Florida?

Lester got some criticism from media critics that he stayed in Korea while the news was breaking. I highly doubt the criticsm brought him home early, maybe something is going with a family member. Lester is the type of guy that will be there first and leave last. For him to go home early is unusual.

  10. I thought the main Anchor does every NN during the games.

They do, I wonder if the news events that happened caused him to come home early. Lester is the type of guy that will be the first to be there and the last to leave.

  11. Savannah did NN tonight from the Winter Games. Interesting, was Lester sick?

He probably needed a lot of rest, he has been working non stop since he went to North Korea. They should have Kate Snow be Lester's back up fill in on the weekdays.

  12. It very interesting that Anne stayed on TODAY Show for 14 Years before she became co-anchor. She obviously was not close with Matt and Katie (But had a professional working relationship) though She and Al were Friends. It shows that back in the day NBC went to great length to keep 'America First Family' together for as long as it could depsite one of its members not having a close relationship with two fo the others. I get why stayed during the Veiria Years. at least by then, there were more people on the show who she a had good relationship with.

Also with the Environment at the show on top of that I have to ask why did she stay for so long?

You can tell by looking at the interactions among the hosts, that the show was a clique. Certain people were favored more then others and that cultura was instigated by Lauer and Couric. Lauer became the worse cause he became a control freak and only wanted certain people.

  13. One of the biggest problems Megyn Kelly faces is that we really don’t know who ‘the real’ Megyn Kelly is. She was a different person when she was on FNC and said/did a lot of stupid things imo (‘Santa can only be White’, etc..).

Now she is on NBC, she has attempted to clean up her image, but that’s tough to do when, for example, you’re an advocate for Women one day and attack an 80 yr. old Woman the next for no reason. This is only one incident/misstep she has made since arriving at NBC.

I think she has never fully taken the time for some self-reflection in order to better herself. Granted that may sound like nonsense, but she would have been better off not taking the job at NBC and spending some time with her family out of the spotlight.

Another reason why people don't like Megyn Kelly is that she thinks she can be the next Oprah. People see through her transparency, she has no likability qualities to really be on Oprah's level.

  14. I think the days of the Morning Shows having a Newsreader in accordance with the Co-anchors are over for the Networks.

CBS did away with it in 2012 and NBC did in 2016. Now GMA has slowing been easing out that position from the show and I think now they have completely cut it from the show and don't have that seat anymore. They don't have a Newsreader anymore thought haven't made it official.

Amy Robach does not give the news anymore like she uses to. She comes on now at 7:30 sometimes 8 doing other things but usually not reading the news.

I think the days of having a Male and Female Co-anchor team with a (Usually Female) Newsreader and a Weatherman (A Male) are over. It is a very 1980s and 1990s format which to the network is probably outdated format now.

Sometimes you need to change things up and not having the newsreader role anymore hasn't hurt NBC and CBS.

Networks are losing it's relevance. The fact that they are seamlessly doing so many personnel changes only shows how much network morning shows are only consumed by 5% of the population and that news matters more then the host. In reality you only need two people to make a program work. The extra people is only welfare to get people to be on air. Today and GMA talk and cover the most frivilous things, you really don't need a serious journalist on the program anymore. To a serious journalist being on Today and GMA is like taking a holiday from their normal routine. I have a feeling that anchors are soon going to be phased cause on Vice News they have the producers read the news. The producers are behind the scenes journalists who do the dirty work for the anchor. I think producers will take over news programs. Vice News gets more news out in 30 minutes then 2 hours of Today show and 22 minutes of evening news.

  15. I agree with the newsreader position. They need it back since they really do not utilize Natalie as the “West Coast Anchor” like they originally said they would (a guise to say she’s really not leaving just expanding her role on the show). She’s basically not even on the show like that ( Same concept they said Ann was the Today Anchor At-Large). Bring in Craig, Willie, or even Shaniell?? to that position. I wonder if they’ll let Megyn Kelly to fill in on the first 2 hours of Today going further and has she did that yet?

The newsreader position is a waste of time. The Today show flows better and is much faster pace without having a newsreader. The transitions is much easirer. To tell you the truth there is really no need for 7 people on these morning shows.

I love the CBS format of only 3 people and no weather person.

  16. I like the choice of Hoda (would have also been happy with Willie or Craig as well) but I think in the long term she should give up the 4th hour. I wonder how breaking news during the 4th hour will be handled.

I've said before, but I wish they would be bring back the newsreader position.

I wonder when Savannah or Hoda is off who will be the main fill-ins.

I think we are overvaluing the Today show and it's personnel nowadays. The Today show is no longer a pivotal source of news and information. It is mainly an advertising block for their sponsors. The Today lost it's steam the last 10 years but after the rise of digital news, network morning television is not longer a vital source to pop culture. Nowadays, the need for a big time anchor is slowly fading especailly on Today show which is 10% news and the rest is all fluff. To me they should turn Today show into entertainment program. Non of the anchors are serious credible journalists.

Give the bookings and interviews to the evening news anchor. Right now Lester is the top anchor at NBC and therefore should have more leverage to do bookings for interviews.

  17. Anyone feeling a little underwhelmed by this news? I really thought Willie was on the fast track to ascend into that chair.

Also some tricky in the ratings reporting lead Today to a fifth week over GMA in total viewers. They only counted the averages for 2 days. Had they counted the 4 day average (Christmas being the missing day), like GMA did they’d have lost by 58,000. Not much reason to panic but it takes a little out of the Today is dominant without Matt stories.

Do you think the Today ratings surge is short term or will they bounce back to second place.

  18. I found it: https://www.today.com/video/look-back-at-the-biggest-news-stories-of-2017-on-today-1123080771583

It aired on Saturday and No clips or voiceovers of Matt. Willie, Lester, and Craig are heard a lot

NBC is definitely going to get rid of Lauer's memory and mark in the years to come. I think the Today show is going to focus more on it's array of on air talent then trying to make anchors into stars. Right now the news is star and not the anchors. To me, Today show should go back to basics, focus on news and human interest. Stop trying to make the hosts interesting and make them stars. There seems to be no rush to have a male co-anchor. Network morning news nowadays is cotton candy programming.

  19. I don't mind Hoda becoming the co-anchor. She will make the morning show less pretentious and plus guys like Craig Melvin and Willie Geist are not proven yet to handle the pressure. My preferred choice would be Lester Holt but that is impossible and he seems to like being on evening news. Evening news has better stability and more freedom for him to do what he wants. Whereas on Today show there are more limitations cause it is multi-cast.

  20. There have been reports that CBS wants to get Oprah on CBS This Morning.

They should poach someone like TJ Holmes or get if they want another female, Soledad O Brien or Ann Curry would be the ultimate redemption story.

  21. I too think the Evening News will become more WNT-like, however, it'll be difficult to fully pull it off mostly due to the fact that CBS's reporter base is so old compared to ABC. I'd find it hard to see someone like John Blackstone doing a minute long package with the phrases "fast moving", "dramatic" and "chaos" used, sometimes all in the same sentence.

Jeff Glor is around the same age as David Muir so they want to project the news anchor as being virile. To be honest Jeff Glor does not have the same reporting and experience like Holt and Muir. Jeff Glor has no specialty and the fact that he got the job shows that CBS might be thinking less of the prominence of their evening news. Their bread and butter is 60 Minutes and CBS Sunday Morning.

  22. The new studio is growing on me, however I think the pace of the news coverage should change. To me I think NBC needs to do more original content on Nightly News. Stop rehasing the same stories and have the anchor be more involved in his own newscast with him doing his own original projects. The stories and script are too similar, people have opened their eyes to it.
