KTXS has gone anchorless so they can function just fine without a studio. Just stick the weather guy at another nearby Sinclair station like Amarillo. Now, the STL getting knocked down will be a little more complex to overcome. They should be able to pull off at least a cable-only feed with help from sister stations.

“We did not eliminate the sports department — we eliminated the sports anchor position,” Keane said. “We’re still going to cover sports extensively both with a reporter in the mornings and we’re going to gather and distribute sports content across all sports whenever there’s breaking news."
Typical corporate jargon speak. They did eliminate the sports department. If you let go of people whose job it was to do a very specific task, you eliminated the department and shifted the workload elsewhere. Also, specifically covering sports with a reporter in the morning? When nothing sportswise happens? Those reporters aren't going to have the same connections and relationships that the sports department will.
I’m not saying it makes sense for the reason you stated, but they have a 6-hour morning show. Gotta fill it with … something

Graham Media might be trying out a new way of managing stations. Per Rick Gevers, Graham’s WKMG in Orlando, Florida will not hire a new general manager, and “department heads [will] report to their corporate supervisors.”
It reeks of Scripps and its station manager concept, where many stations replaced GMs with an existing department head who added “station manager” to their job title…while still running their respective department.
The common link here? Sean McLaughlin, the ex-Scripps news VP who landed at Graham.
The GM at KPRC/Houston just left recently. Will be curious to see if they’re going this route too.

TEGNA is taking a page out of the Scripps playbook now. In Spokane on KREM 2, the weeknight 11pm broadcast is now a replay of the 10pm they produce for their sister station. The main channel doesn’t even air live news at 11. No disclaimer on the TV that it isn’t live, but the app lags a few seconds behind the on-air feed and they match up word for word. Interestingly enough, the app has a “previously recorded” tag but keeps the 10pm time/temp bug. The on-air rebroadcast has the right bug. Seriously cheap as this is a mid-60s market.
Is this happening elsewhere in TEGNA-land?
This is just … odd. What good does this do? They pay people for one less hour? How much does that save? It’s a piddly amount. KREM used to be strong and Tegna has destroyed it.

They’ve said they’re keeping Kelly and Mark, so that must be what will fill the 11a hour.
From 1-3p, the story on the Local 10 website mentions today’s announcement is only the first phase of their expansion, so I wouldn’t be surprised if a lifestyle show is on the way. Other options for that time period include 48 Hours, which they already have airing currently in an overnight slot. InvestigateTV+ isn’t airing in Miami, so that’s a possibility too.
They don’t carry Daytime Jeopardy, right? That could be a candidate for prime time. There’s also the new Deborah Norville game show if someone else in the market hasn’t snagged it. It would be hilarious though if they stole Family Feud and aired it for the full two hours between 7p and 9p like everyone here has been joking about.

I assume CBS 47 is the winner at noon because … Price Is Right. Are they also the winner at 11p?

Is there any syndication that isn’t currently airing in Miami? WPLG only has Kelly & Mark, Wheel, Jeopardy and 48 Hours. Yes, they’ll add a lot of news — like 7-9a and in primetime — but they are going to need to make several pickups to fill in the holes. (Hopefully no crappy Byron Allen court shows!)

Joining the growing list of stations with their chief on air in the mornings …

Ever since Emily Barr left, the new leadership seems determined to torch these stations. KSAT was absolutely obliterated by the buyouts. Now the local media reporter is claiming KPRC parted ways with its morning traffic anchor … and doesn’t plan to replace her?!? How do you do news in Houston and not have a morning traffic anchor and be taken seriously? (Again, assuming the report is right …) And don’t get me started on that horrid set KPRC installed that was overseen by the ND who left just a few months after it debuted.

ARC has expanded to Beaumont too. 8am and 10am on KBTV. Weird to be have an hour-long gap, but they pull in “Daytime” from sister station KABB in San Antonio live during the 9am hour.
-
Looks like they tacked on a 4-430am newscast, too. Or has that been around for a bit?
Bringing the 3pm back only for elections is ridiculous. Make a decision … are you going syndie or are you going local?
Also … WSB is airing Judy Justice at 1 in the morning?!? No one else in the market wanted to pick that up? What a waste.

Wow! Didn’t see this one coming: KPRC/Houston is canceling its 10a newscast after less than a year. The Drew Barrymore Show, which has been airing at 3a on Nexstar’s KIAH, takes over the KPRC 10a slot as soon as the Olympics end in 2-ish weeks.

That is the big rumor I've now read from multiple sources...
Nexstar owns KXAN and WGN, where there‘s now an opening for another meteorologist since Tom left and Demetrius got bumped to nights from the midday shift. Maybe there?

KXAN Chief Meteorologist David Yeomans is leaving after Wednesday
Their story says he’s going somewhere with “very different weather,” which would seem to indicate a station in the Northeast.

WKYC's Hollie Strano made her first appearance on-air this morning since her drunk driving incident about 3 months ago:
She's been demoted to weekend mornings (plus Mondays and Tuesdays at 7PM).
Shocked they’re being her back. That was a high-profile, well-covered DWI with shocking video. Stations have dumped talent arrested for DWIs far less severe.

“The Cube” (angled video wall) and the 9-monitor array next to it are both recycled from the last set. This was done on the cheap.

2.5 months after they moved to a temporary set right after Thanksgiving and almost an entire month past their previously stated debut target of 1/15, they are set to finally debut this thing on Monday. Main anchor Daniella Guzman posted the news on Facebook this afternoon. The set is apparently “sleek” and “cool” with huge screens that require lots of standing and walking. All her words, not mine. She has a cheesy, totally staged — but kinda cute — teaser post on her Facebook page that only shows the new studio’s green screen, nothing more, in case anyone wants to check it out.

Compare this to the garbage set they gave KEYE in Austin … wow. Amazing difference.

What’s going on at Sinclair’s KUTV in SLC? They’re a rare highly-rated Sinclair station, have a nice downtown window-front studio, newscasts that don’t look small-market, etc., etc. … and yet they’ve lost several on-air folks. Now the ND is fleeing too, heading to WRAL.
-
Doesn’t look like it’s happening today after all. It’s a holiday — MLK Day — and there’s breaking news with the wintry weather. Maybe later in the week?
-
Boston 25 doesn’t tape their late news, do they? The morning and 5 opens say LIVE; the 10 open says NOW. Maybe it’s just an inconsistency…
