  1. It's the end of an era as Britan's longest-reigning monarch has dies at 96 years old.

coverage on US networks is as follows:

NBC: Lester Holt is anchoring a special report. It is not being simulcast on MSNBC or any other NBCU owned cable network.

Fox: simulcast of FNC rolling coverage anchored by Sandra Smith and John Roberts. this is being picked up on most if not all Fox affiliates even though it's technically level 2.

ABC: special report anchored by David Muir.

CBS: special report anchored by Norah O'Donnell.

the cable news channels are in rolling coverage. I don't know if it's being picked up by their co-owned entertainment channels.

I agree with this. This is the same problem UPN and The WB both had too.

The difference is that UPN and The WB had name-brand shows like Star Trek : Voyager, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Dawson's Creek

  3. Fox has not any decision on coverage on either broadcast or cable. Assume the broadcast side will stick with it's regular schedule (MasterChef, Welcome to Flatch, and Call Me Kat) with Brett and Martha being picked up by any affiliate that wants it. FNC didn't carry the first hearing and likely won't carry this one.

  4. the 8th (and likely final) hearing has been scheduled for next Thursday in primetime. looking ahead to the network schedules for that evening, everything on the 4 major networks is reruns with the exception of ABC's game shows, so they should be in the clear to broadcast this hearing.

Many of the NBC Stations moved "Days" to 3 AM or after the hearing concludes. I'm assuming that the number of FOX stations is the same as eariler. I'm also assuming that many PBS stations aren't carrying this.

There were people on Twitter complaining to local stations  it was interrupting syndicated programming. I posted this in response.

They need to understand that the local stations didn't have a say in this (NBC and Fox stations may have due to the way special reports are formatted on those networks).

  6. UPDATE: Hearing #7 is set for 1pm Eastern today (it was originally scheduled for 10am Eastern). all 3 networks will cover it live (NBC's coverage is optional for stations airing syndicated shows or Days of Our Lives).

There had been a primetime hearing scheduled for Thursday but that has been rescheduled for a later date, it currently isn't known if that hearing will still be in primetime on the new date.

Surprised to see ABC using the bulletin branding as late as 2004. I wonder when they completely dropped using that and just stuck to special report. Special Report is a little overused for repeating events such as the impeachment trial or January 6 hearings. The live coverage designation, like back in the day, would be better suited for such events.

That is the last time I remember ABC using the Bulletin designation for breaking news. Is that still in active use?

It would be helpful to know which specific O&Os outside DC are NOT airing the hearings like WNYW. It clearly is a statement.  Unlike the other networks their affiliates don’t seem to have a must carry mandate for news special reports.

Technically, the networks don't have must-carry requirements for special reports when they occur during non-network time.

Are any Fox O&Os outside the beltway broadcasting the hearings?  Fox5 New York is not.  Judge shows ruled the afternoon.  Nor was it put on their useless co-owned station.

I imagine many of the O&Os are running the hearings as are more news-heavy Fox affiliates.

The Wednesday hearing has been postponed.

Assuming this hearing is rescheduled, will it be for Friday or next Tuesday? I would think this committee doesn't want to meet over a holiday weekend.

I wonder how many Fox stations will air this? Probably the same number that aired the first one.

I would bet the more news-focused Fox affiliates will. The ones with no or outsourced news operations will probably stick to their regular schedules.

  13. the scheduling of next Thursday's hearing has created a possible conflict with NBC Sports coverage of the first round of the US Open golf tournament. that hearing has been scheduled for 1pm Eastern time with Golf scheduled for 2pm Eastern. Assuming NBC carries this hearing, do they leave early for Golf if it goes past 2:00 which it likely will do or does round 1 air exclusively on USA?

MSNBC will be providing extended coverage on Thursday, the networks big names will come in for the night.

Shame on Fox for not providing coverage of such a high profile event.

I wonder if the networks will go straight to local news if the coverage goes late enough? If the hearing lasts anywhere around that 2 and a half hour mark, it would turn into a nice lead in for local news. I’m guessing ABC will do a special edition of Nightline? Colbert should/could do a live show as he does around special events.

I wonder what the networks will do if the hearings go past 11pm Eastern
