Not sure if this has been posted yet, but here's a montage of opens and closes of nearly every Southern and Central California TV station from 1993. That open from KTTV is pretty sharp; I hadn't seen that one before.

While I’m on the subject of classic TV, have any of you guys ever been to the website of the Wolfson Archive? It has a treasure trove of South Florida TV clips (most of which seem to be from the master copies!) that are really worth checking out. That 7/4/86 KSDK update is interesting. When did the next theme debut? In the fall? I would assume that they would have rolled out the new graphics and music at the same time as the new NBC logo, but I don't actually know, because KSDK footage from that period is so scarce (despite someone out there having more video we haven't seen from the 80s, but they only ever post photos snapped off of a TV/monitor). The fact that NMSA still misdates this theme as 1981 when it most likely debuted some time in 1985 is a testament to how much of a black hole this period is.

First theme is in the NMSA as WDIO/WIRT 1985...and going by this sample, it's tied to the network (note the WNT signature at the start). The other two are entirely new.

In 2013, KAIT in Jonesboro celebrated its 50th anniversary. As I post this, the videos from their 50th anniversary are still on the website including some blooper reels. The second blooper reel contains some news opens including opens at 2:23, 4:15 and 4:49 with unknown news themes.
