Rhetorical question, but why on Earth is the camera shoulder mount and not a normal studio camera? Looks unprofessional and good luck trying to read a prompter like that.

Doug Adair is still living. As of the writing of this post he is 89.

One more from my small collection of early 2000s news footage taped off cable on S-VHS...WCMH 5pm show the Monday after the OSU-Michigan riots in 2002 (November 25, to be exact).

Media General was hit hard by the recession of 2008-09 when they were still a small ownership group (even by 2008 standards...maybe 14 stations?) Most of that was due to them holding onto unprofitable small market newspapers in the south for too long.

Both stations fight between each other for #2 and #3. Duane Pohlman is at WKRC now. IMO, WSYX is unwatchable, and it has nothing to do with Sinclair's must runs, etc. They just do a lot of low-brow/lowest common denominator type stuff that is straight out of 1994. Being close to Nexstar's corporate headquarters in Irving helps.

Not to mention a young Bill Kurtis at WBBM.

Complete 6AM newscast from WBNS from Thursday, March 18, 1999. Top stories include the Buckeyes Sweet 16 game against Auburn, the ongoing search for Erica Baker, and the passing of The Longaberger Basket Company patriarch Dave Longaberger.

There is an Ohio capitol bureau based at WCMH that provides content for WCMH, WDTN, WTRF, WKBN, and probably WOWK, too.

Speaking of Mark Johnson, he posted that longtime WEWS meteorologist Don Webster died this morning.

She made it Facebook official Tuesday.

Ashlee Baracy and Ross Caruso both work mornings. Your screename makes me chuckle every time I see one of your posts BTW.

It's not that simple. If Eric breached his contract to leave* he would have to pay WHIO the money they would have payed him if he worked out his contract. Unless you are prepared to lawyer up, or have a damn good reason to breach your contract, you're pretty much locked in. It is a contract after all. ***I'm not saying he did. Just hypothetically speaking***
-
Or maybe Eric is truly getting out the industry? Bit of a jerk move on your part to speculate he's going to replace Chris Bradley without any knowledge of the situation (outside of Chris's advanced Leukemia, of course).

I don't either. It was a poor attempt at sarcasm on my part. Tough crowd.- 3687 replies

Posted in another thread it was a hoax. You all can put your fur down.

Yes, it does. Especially in the case of an active shooter, it's better to be right rather than first.

I saw that and had a good laugh. Does that mean someone at KYC is going to be Matt Lauer, and creep out all the women at the station?- 3687 replies

Same here. I remember seeing videos like these pre-YouTube on eBaum's World (another blast from the past). For those playing at home, yes, that is from when WCCB was still a Fox station. IIRC, he left this station to enter rehab then resurfaced in Colorado Springs. Had no idea he was in San Diego.

Not sure if it's new or not, but in trolling TitanTV it appears WTOL (Toledo) is producing a 7:00pm weekday newscast for WUPW.
-
In that scenario the station still owns the footage, it's just the university is doing the legwork of digitizing and archiving everything. The station can use the archive footage for their special if they want to.

TEGNA Broadcasting and Digital General Discussion

Appreciate the perspective of someone who has been there. Again, just from my observations here and other places, it seems the TEGNA stations that are struggling with new format(s) are stations that were already the dog station in town (or certainly not in 1st place). So in essence they are trying to change things up because they have nothing left to lose, and they probably had inept management to begin with (rampant everywhere, not just in TV). I think people who don't work in the industry have any idea just how much sales can influence the news product of a station. I'm not saying it's right, it's just the way it is. Also, wasn't Belo notoriously slow to embrace new trends and technology in the industry? It certainly seemed like they were. Going from a company stuck in the old ways to a company that encourages change is going to have some growing pains.- 3687 replies

I'm not too familiar with the company, other than I see a lot of people on here and a certain TV news blog complain about TEGNA. I live in a state with a TEGNA station (now two, actually, thanks to the Gray-Raycom merger). If they have rolled out their changes it hasn't affected this station's ratings. Old Gannett poured a lot of money into this station and it became a relevant player in the market and has stayed there for the better parts of two decades. There is not a tremendous amount of turnover at this station, and most of their on-air staff are older and I would assume well paid, which supposedly are the target of TEGNA's implosion of their stations (again, not my opinion). Like someone else said, it's all the local management. Same goes for all TV stations, and really every place of business.- 3687 replies
