  1. Not just WXYZ wants to be done with "The Now". WEWS has just dropped "The Now" name. In their case, they're now "News 5 at 4 PM".
  2. He is, but he is now currently a morning and noon anchor.
  3. There's a new face on WXYZ's weather team. Mike Taylor, who will be on during weekends, presented the weather yesterday at 6 PM and 11 PM. He's an in-house hire who came from WMAR. Previous to that, he had a previous stint at WXYZ, as well as positions at WCIA and WBKB. This could be a definite sign as well that Chris Edwards will actually retire. WXYZ's weather team currently consists of Dave Rexroth, Kevin Jeanes, Hally Vogel, Beth McLeod (for who knows how long) and now Mike Taylor is back.
  4. After enduring false start date announcements, WJBK properly expanded to 4 AM today. Thanks to outsourced master controls, the bug reserved for syndicated programs appeared on this newscast, with the proper news bug not fading in until 4:05 AM. They're using the same people who are already doing the 4:30 AM.
  5. WJBK weekday morning newscast, April 2000: WDIV weekend newscast, May 2002, right before the change to a logo that they would use until 2014:
  6. WDIV weeknight newscast, April 11, 2000:
  7. Reporters and a photojournalist for WXYZ were beaten during an assignment, one of their vehicles was vandalized in the same attack. WWJ AM reporters were also beaten. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2018/08/02/journalists-attacked-assignment-detroit/888635002/
  8. 1995 WXYZ promo from during the Detroit Newspaper Strike, the earliest known use of "Eyewitness News" on WXYZ (beating the NMSA by six years):
  9. A KTVU report from presumably December 1988 by anchor Elaine Corral on Pixar's third annual Christmas party, after which she roasts Pixar laser scanner technician Don Conway. Pressing play will take you right to this report, which is part of a compilation of videos made for Pixar's 1988 Christmas party, which appears on the recently-uploaded DVD titled Made in Point Richmond. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=OIcu8w3rXTQ;t=337
  10. Four different news reports on a now-stopped practice of converting a trash landfill in Riverview, Michigan into a ski hill, from the early 90's. Included are reports from CNN, WXYZ, 20/20 and a French program, Ce Soir.
  11. It appears WNEM has gone back to using knockoffs of other graphics packages. This time, the CBS O&O 2016 graphics.
  12. Well hopefully Scripps doesn't end up being sold to Sinclair...I'm glad I currently don't live in a Sinclair market, but if WXYZ and WMYD start running those must-runs...minus one viewer for them.
  13. Additionally, WJBK will be expanding it's morning newscast in September to start at 4 AM, officially becoming the first station in Detroit (and possibly all of Michigan) to run a newscast at 4 AM. Speaking of WJBK...as of today, they are still using the Fox O&O Theme. Meanwhile, they continue to use Scott Chapin, including on promos for syndicated shows that debuted within the past few years.
  14. Major shifts are about to be underway at Scripps' original Circle 7: so far, it is known that Denise Isaac and Joanne Purtan will be let go. http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2018/2/6/more-out-in-motown I presume this has to do with the corporate restructuring mentioned at the top of this page.
  15. I myself didn't bother noticing this for years until now, but yeah, using two packages simultaneously is quite bizarre.
  16. So far, WJBK is still using the old theme as of right now. Not to mention that they're still using opens from 2012 and they've been using Chapin for VOs since like the late 90's or so.
  17. According to another forum, Claire Cameron has left WNEM and is now down I-69 at WILX "for family reasons". This really should say a lot...
  18. Hello TVNT folks! This is my first post on this site after a couple years of lurking... Back on Wednesday, I was watching the 11 PM newscast on WXYZ and going into commercial, they displayed a preview banner that had their morning newscast run from "4 to 7 AM". Of course, the morning newscast promos they aired during the commercials still mentioned a 4:30 start time, as does my program guide. Is this expansion something WXYZ is truly doing? If so, you can add the Detroit market to the slowly-growing list of markets with newscasts with 4 AM start times.
